| I read this book in two days because it was so harrowing and riveting. The author grew up in a household with a depressed mother and a cold, uncaring father who showed signs of being a psychopath. It's amazing that Burroughs survived with all of his intellgence and sanity intact. There may be some people who think that households like this do not exist, but they will have to think again. | Some of you actually liked this book? It was my first time reading essays and might just be the last... I had to force myself to finish this book becase i had hope that I would find something more entertaining. I finished it and ive never been more dissapointed although it did make me wanna say: "I was told there'd be cake" |

| My wife enjoys her TV show so I bought the Kindle version for her and later heard her squealing laughter in the other room while she was reading it. I wondered what the big deal was so upon waking up Saturday morning, I grabbed the Kindle and started reading before taking my morning bathroom break. OOPS, thanks a lot Chelsea. Your book is hilarious but your description of you being strip searched put me in hot....I should say warm water. The "Alfalfa in a leg lock" quote was the culprit. Keep up the good work. |

| This is Sedaris' best collection of short stories/memoirs/autobiographies. His writing is wonderful, in part because it's hard to separate fact from fiction. He has a true gift for writing. My favorite story is the title one but all are great. These stories are great to read all at once or one at a time! |

| I loved this book. I thought it was witty and funny and a great read to relax with and just enjoy. I wish it were longer.. I didn't want to finish it. |

| This book is really funny, the way she tells stories is hilarious. Her other book "Are you there Vodka It's me Chelsea?" is really funny too. I wish she had more books. |

| I don't like to read reviews and descriptions of a book prior to reading it because so very often they give away too much and spoil the book for me. This book was given to me as a gift and I just assumed it was fiction. I kept waiting for some sort of story to evolve, a plot, a direction. Took me many a chapter to even realize this was non-fiction and basically a collection of anecdotes. Perhaps I would have enjoyed the book more if I had realized that at the onset.

| There's been a lot of negative ink about Frey's latest book, probably people who are mad at him for having betrayed Oprah.
This effort is huge in scope. It's influenced by the movie CRASH (which is one of my favorites) and in a way I saw echoes of SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY and FERN HILL...only with graphic violence and sex.
