| It starts strongly with the almost paradoxical problem that the special grace offered by God through Jesus requires substantial reflection and justification when compared to the acts-based grace of other religions. I wrote paradoxical because in Judaism, acts matter, what you believe is secondary, nice, but not damning by absence. Jews think of this as superior to Christianity, but it allows very sloppy thinking, which the carefulness of Keller shows.

| We read this nightly at bedtime. I wish there were more books like this. My daughter has enjoyed learning the verses, and when similar situations arise in our lives, I'll remind her, "Remember how we read about this with Missy and Bill ..." Just another tool to help reinforce attitudes. Perfect for younger kids. |

| I did not like this book because of its huge emphasis on catechism. We believe that it's more important for children to "hide God's word in their heart" than it is to put questions & answers into a brainwashed program for kids. God's word is a "double edged sword" and if we can get it into our kids, God will do the job. Obviously, it's important to explain what the bible verses mean so that they can understand God's word that they are memorizing. Catechism is superfluous and this book overemphasizes it. |

| Like any other child rearing book written by fallible humans, there were some useful things I learned from this book and other things I disagree with. No matter what his credentials, what worked so wonderfully with his children may not work for mine. He is not me and his children are wired differently than mine.

Harvey has brilliantly published a book on biblical theology and the Cross-centered Gospel under the guise of marriage. He basically follows the example of the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 5:22-33. | Plowman does an excellent job of explaining how to use scripture to teach and guide your children. She gives everyday examples that make it very clear and practical. I have found that speaking scripture to my children is a very liberating way of disciplining them. God has already given me wonderful truths to speak to them and plant in their hearts. Since I don't have to come up with my own words "in the heat of the moment," I find myself more calm and patient as I teach them.
