VHS : The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez
This VHS production of The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez is a great film about the tragic story behind the flawed pursuit of a man made worse by cultural and lanuguage barriers. This film reveals a lot about the prevailing attitudes of the time (early 1900s) and how they contributed to an imperfect system of justice.

An epic masterpiece filled with some of the greatest character actors of all time..Like Charlton Heston, John Wayne was cheated out of many honors because of his poltics...
Any who sees The Quiet Man, True Grit,Sands of Iwo Jima, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, The Long Voyage Home, The Shootest and naturally The Searchers must recognize that the Duke was much more than a movie star but a fantastic actor who could create unique characters..(granted, there was no way he could have portrayed a weakling ... This is a fine movie from a veteran couple. The notes on the tumbleweeds, the romote western desert scenery, the stuggles, and the triumphs are classic cowboy poetry put to film. Look for a great old timer in this movie. Of Course, this is a Louis L'Amour story. It is written right and filmed right.

75.Last Stand at Saber River starring: Tom Selleck, Suzy Amis, Rachel Duncan, Haley Joel Osment, Keith Carradine
directed by: Dick Lowry

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : Last Stand at Saber River
Over the years, Tom Selleck has developed into somewhat of a western icon. And why not? Selleck is spot on in fleshing out those qualities most cherished by folks of the untamed old west. And, of course, it doesn't hurt that he looks the part, all tall and rugged and bemustached. He's at it again in LAST STAND AT SABER RIVER, the 1997 TNT oater. In this one, he plays Paul Cable, a weary ex-Confederate soldier who returns home to Texas, knowing full well that the war between the states has already been lost, even as ... Read More:

We just saw this movie on TV and while it probably deserved the 2 stars the TV rating gave it, we had a ball watching it. This movie has it all! Cowboys, Indians, Train Robberies, Mexican Missions, Prostitutes, Gushing Fake Blood, and Samurai. What more could you ask for in a Western.

VHS : Grim Prairie Tales
For such a distinguished actor, James Earl Jones has made some really forgettable movies, and I would count Grim Prairie Tales among them. This 1990 anthology piece seems to have garnered decent reviews, but I personally can't see how this movie could impress anyone. Just because it's different - a horror/Western anthology which eschews the standard formula of "it is the story, not he who tells it" (i.e., the two storytellers are more interesting than the stories they tell) - doesn't mean it's very good. Without the overpowering presence of ... Read More:
