VHS : The Virginian
There are no words to describe how SLOW this movie was from beginning to end, but let me try anyway so as to give people a fair chance to avoid it and thus try and prevent their day/evening from being ruined: the film deals with the story of a schoolteacher from New England who meets a Virginian cowboy on the plains of Wyoming.
The presence of Bill Pullman and Diane Lane did very little to alleviate the pain of watching this slooow and boooring mooovie...
In addition, Diane Lane's character ... Read More:

By 1969, revolution was in the air in the United States. All kinds of institutions were under question or attack. So it was a perfect time for the funniest spoof ever of the heroic Western. James Garner stars in "Support Your Local Sheriff" as Jason McCullough, who rides into the frontier town of Calendar. Calendar was a sleepy little outpost until the discovery of gold a short time before McCullough's arrival. Then all h--- broke loose. He's soon persuaded to take up the sheriff's badge, which is vacant (and dented) ... Read More:

This is the nicest western show I ever saw. Good plot, well chosen actors and actresses, in a convincing and beautiful tale of pioneer life. I could watch it over and over.

This movie falls into the "so bad it's good" category. All the actors are terrible, even Henry Fonda's cameo stinks. Some of the scenery is great, some is obviously phony. But somehow it is watchable, perhaps because you keep imagining what is being parodied, especially toward the end. Yet it gives one a twinge of regret when it's over.

He's a great character, just the kind that Bugs works best with.

I could go on about "modern American classics," but let's be real. These are cartoons. They're for fun. They ARE fun. That's all. Yosemite Sam is only one of many outstanding characters from WB, Mel Blanc, and the rest. Maybe he won't be the centerpiece of your library, but should be there anyway.

When I'm having a no-brain day, he's good company.

This move is a great timeless Classic. Great acting and good music. I did not know what to expect with Lee Marvin and Clint Easwood, two that were better known for hard gunfighting movies, in a musical, but it is great. I recommend this for all families. It will remain a part of my movie library for future viewing.

VHS : The Big Sky (Colorized)
I have been reading from Lewis and Clark's journal and I have been trying to stay with them day by day 200 years later. It has been an interesting experience and helps bring history to life. I reflected on the Corps of Discovery last night as I watched, for the first time, the movie "The Big Sky". I found myself seeing scenes that took me back to passages from the journals. An on-screen depiction, if you will, of what I had been visualizing in my mind. Now, for the record, I had been visualizing this in color and watched it in black and ... Read More:

I saw this when I was 10 and just saw it again. It was awful then and worse now. A complete waste of time and talent. Idiotic and stupid. Bad, Bad, Bad.

VHS : Hi-Lo Country
Hi-Lo country's plot has already been summarized here a few dozen times, so I'll get right to the element that followed me after I finished this film. The principle friendship, between Crudup's and Harrelson's characters, appear like many of our own at first glance: rock-solid, inseparable, and fixed upon the strongest loyalties. They fight for one another and watch each other's backs like hawks; and yet, when a woman comes into play and divides them, the wheels of their loyalty come unhinged and a crashing course of events takes place.

I found this to be the ... Read More:
