| This film is still not on dvd, and it should be. This movie is really a guilty preasure, in that, it is all the things a movie should not be. Historically inacurrate, and all Hollywood from the get go. But, that was the way it was until audiances became too sufficiated for bad directing. | The brothers (played by Strother Martin, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Elam)as mentioned in other reviews, are "slap stick" at times. Welch's make-up was too heavy for the time period, and her dress un-buttoned down her navel while she is cooking, was a bit much. With all that it is still a very good movie and Robert Culp's best acting. He could teach me to shoot a gun anytime!
One of the better Welch movies, I have this on VHS and have watched it over and over! |

| This is a wonderful family Christmas movie.I first saw it many years
ago and have never forgotten it. I was so glad that I found a copy at Amazon.com.Watching this movie really makes you appreciate the simple things in life. This movie is so good it will make you laugh and cry. |

| In the mid-70's James Garner & Louis Gossett teamed up in two memorable episodes of "The Rockford Files". | I agree with everybody that has posted reviews about this movie, but the ones that have only 1 or 2 stars. In the style of Gone With the Wind, the novel shows how families were at first united, then separated during the conflict. I am familiar with the historical facts and that is why I could follow the locations and time, but someone who has not read the book or know little about the true facts would be a little lost. | Another one of my favorite movies with John Wayne and the whole John Ford crew.
The scene where Ben Johnson, Harry Carey Jr., and Claude Jarman Jr. ride two Horses Roman style (that's standing on the two horse's backs) was actually done by them, not stuntmen! They just don't make them like that anymore. |
