| This was the worse adaption from book to movie I've ever seen!
I fell in love with Julie Garwood's book, For the Roses. It is a wonderfully sexy, mysterious, and funny story! I was so excited to find that a movie was made on one my favorite books. | Great movie! Cute story. Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne have a magnetic chemistry which makes this movie work. Chill Wills is always fabulous in his supporting role. Comedy, romance, love, stubborn pride, etc.
Nice romantic comedy with a western setting. |

| My husband had seen this movie when he was young and had talked so much about it that I went to Amazon (where you can find anything you want) and ordered it for his birthday. He was so excited that I had found it but was disappointed that it was not the orginal movie. He said it was good, full of history "the real story" of that period but did drag a little. All in all, I think he was pleased that I had even found the movie to share with his friends. |

| An excellent movie with Gary Cooper and Paulette Goddard. Funny seeing Boris Karloff as the Seneca chief. After several years trying to find this movie on DVD, it was fantastic to finally find it in this format. A definite must-buy for lovers of American history. |

| This is arguably Ford's worst picture. That's not to say it's bad, but compared to other Ford films, it's one of his worst. Despite some magnificent passages, it's a very tiresome affair. Ford reportedly did it for the money, hated the script, and just tried to finish it as quickly as possible. His apathy towards the project comes through. It feels like a hodgepodge of cliched Western scenes thrown together.

Robert Mitchum is in top form in this unusual western, when he is initially persuaded by his former partner to bilk some naïve landowners. But in the road he decides to seize up the whole situation and refuse. The highlight of the film is the fabulous gunshots in the barrooms and in the dark forest. Robert Wise as always unbeatable, a talented director who walked for so many roads. Just after that he would make the classic of the classic Noir: "The set up." |
