VHS : Sesame Street - The Best of Elmo
Kids just love Elmo, no matter how much adults may not feel the same way, though I do admit I am somewhat entertained by him. But my son (2-1`/2) absolutely loves him, so that is what really matters. I try to limit television/video time and a one or two 1/2 hour breaks during the day and this is a good DVD for those times - you usually cannot go wrong with CTW.

VHS : Island of the Blue Dolphins
This is the story of Karana, a young Indian girl raised on an island off the coast of California. Supposedly it is based on a true story, and it tells of how she survived on her native island after all of her people were removed and her younger brother was killed. The reader never knows why Karana's people were removed from the island, which would have helped me understand the story a bit better.

While Scott O'Dell is a good storyteller, there are some gaps that I wished he had explained ... Read More:

I use this in my classroom high school classroom. It shows the need and history for the civil rights legislation, but also gives tremendous insight into the workings of the Supreme Court. There is very little profanity, so it is classroom appropriate.

VHS : The Mr. Bill Collection (The Best of Saturday Night Live)
All the material on this disk plus more is contained in the three-disk Definitive Collection which at the time of this writing is in print, available on Amazon, and very inexpensive (especially through 3rd-party sellers). What the D.C. lacks is any printed material that might be included with this Anchor Bay release.
Mr. Bill, BTW, seemed a lot funnier to me during his SNL run (this seems to be the general consensus), but even with hindsight, I'd probably still purchase the D.C., if only for an inexpensive ... Read More:

VHS : The Best of On the Road With Charles Kuralt
Charles Kuralt was the poet of small town America the way Vin Scully is the poet of Dodger Stadium. Relaxed, warm, folksy and deceptively insightful. He had a way of setting you at ease and somehow convincing you that the entire cosmos could be found in the minutia of this one fleeting moment. His beloved little program, 'ON THE ROAD' (1967-80) in which he traveled the backroads of America in a motorhome to show us the real heart of the country was eagerly anticipated by countless people every weekend - myself included. ... VHS : Streets of Laredo
A long way from the Hollywoodised version of a Lonesome Dove sequel seen in `Return from Lonesome Dove', this is Larry McMurty's riposte to the way the Studio handled that sequel. Where `Return..' dealt with the cattle barons and themes of redemption and wholesome endings, this is a stark and realistic portrayal of the West. Here, the violent men of the burgeoning West are a dying breed (no pun intended) and that sense of a time in history passing is present throughout the whole movie.
Captain Call is now a bounty hunter - past his ... Read More:
