| This film is unavailable from Block Buster or NetFlix or the library system. It is too important to be abandoned. I don't know why, if it is considered politically incorrect or too hot to handle, or what. John La Carre wrote without an agenda, showing both sides, warts and all. I plan to loan it to as many people as will watch it.

| i bought this dvd for my husband on oct 15. we did not have chance to watch this dvd until 28 nov. but when we started dvd player it start to make noise and on screen it shows bad disk. so i try to returned the dvd however i could not send them out because it was over 30days. it said it will play on regular dvd so we tried on 3 different player but no go. i am stock with damage dvd. is anyone could help out!

| I have been waiting for years for this movie to make it to dvd.To say that this movie is quirky is an understatement.
It follows a detective played beautifully by Dennis Hopper as he tries to solve a murder. What is unusual is that the average Joe uses magic as part of his daily routine,i.e.want to take out your trash,simply think it and its done or want to be beautiful have someone cast a spell and its done. | As a filmmaker I appreciate Oliver Stone, his provactive, political, conspiratorial, curious, enigmatic, ominous visions of Americana are the stuff of high entertainment. Right or wrong, his works are wonderful cinema, it doesn't matter if his version is slanted to the left, it is a distinct vision and he is skilled at executing it.

| Welcome to my review. This particular version of the movie Assault on a Queen(VHS) is ample yet rare so if you see it cheap grab it before somebody else does to sell it on eBay. I take it you don't jump over tall buildings in a single bound or lay down with lions but if you do then this movie will still impress you I'm sure. Take the world famous Steamship HMS Queen Mary and chances are you've never seen her. Or for that matter noticed her even in photographs. | Robert Mitchum, Sylvia Miles, Charlotte Rampling, Harry Dean Stanton, Jack O'Halloran, John Ireland and Sylvester Stallone,among others - what a lineup. Of the entire genre of film noir, tough guy detective films, this one is by far the best. Mitchum is at his all time best, even though he's nearly sixty in this film (a bit old to play Marlowe, in my opinion, but he carries it off with absolute aplomb). | If only this movie came on a normal Region coding i could watch it on my DVD player and not my laptop. This is one of Mamets great films only second to "Sparten." A must watch if you can find on normal DVD, but like the orginal "Blade Runner," you may never get it on DVD. later! |

| Will's play is pretty good. Polanski's film, not so much. Yep, the Scottish play was meant to be a dark one, and Polanski gives us lots of glowering skies, but I just didn't feel much depth of character in this rendering. I'd love to see what Zefferelli would do with Macbeth... or the Cohen brothers.... |
