VHS : Rebecca
Rebecca (1940) is the only film directed by Alfred Hitchcock that won an Oscar as best picture and it is also his first american film. It certainly has many of Hitch's trademarks (the opening sequence for example)but imho it is an overrated film, the performances are dull with the exceptcion of Judith Anderson`s role and the script is weak. Suspicion , Notorius , Strangers on a Train are by far better films in which the Master of Suspense displays all his genius. Sincerely I expected a more interesting ... Read More:

German Army officer Grau, a colonel in Wehrmacht Intelligence, is talking to a French policeman, Inspector Morand, in Paris. The year is 1944. For two years Grau has been investigating the psychopathic murder of a prostitute that took place in Warsaw. The suspects are three Wehrmacht general officers. Says Inspector Morand as he wonders why Grau is so persistent in his investigation, "Murder is the occupation of generals."

"Then let us say," Grau replies, "what is admirable on the large scale ... Read More:

VHS : Bonnie & Clyde
As our nation teeters on the brink of what may be another Great Depression, it's poignant to look back on the last one. This movie was visually beautiful and artistically ground breaking, but the real story was much richer and darker.

They did not meet when Clyde was trying to steal Emma Parker's car; they met at a gathering of mutual friends and relatives when Bonnie was out of work.

Clyde was not gay or impotent, but an accomplished Cassanova who had serveral girlfriends, some serious, before ... Read More:

While the copy and content are of couse excellant; the billing of this movie is deceiving. This is not a restored copy; the missing parts are still missing. This is basically the version shown on good television stations like Turner Classics.

I first saw this movie in the theater as a boy with my father. It's stuck with me ever since and remains on the list of my top ten favorite films. Fortunately I was able to pick up an old VHS copy several years ago.

Remote Mountains, Eerie Mines, Mysterious Bagpipe Music Drifting through the Misty Woods, Rapelling into Bottomless Mine Shafts, Crashing Float Planes into Frigid Lakes, Gold!,... What more can you ask for in an adventure film? I never tire of watching this film. It is very UNIQUE! Much of the movie is filmed ... Read More:

VHS : Dial M for Murder
Alfred Hitchcock had already begun work on Rear Window when he took on the project to direct Dial M for Murder, based on the successful play by Frederick Knott. For the film, Hitchcock chose to cast his favorite leading lady of the time, Grace Kelly, as the embattled Margot Wendice. Kelly would also star in Rear Window and Hitchcock's subsequent To Catch a Thief. It wasn't Hitchcock's preference to shoot Dial M for Murder in Warnercolor 3D (the cameras were large), and the film is seldom screened in 3D, but Hitchcock's use of the technique ... Read More:

VHS : Woman in the Window
Even though this isn't a famous film noir, I'd recommend it. The production values were very good. It's a good crime mystery, with a well-developed plot line and a surprise ending. Tension builds as the movie progresses. Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett, and Raymond Massey both gave excellent performances. And, yes, the film is very noir.
