Fritz Lang was one of the greatest directing talents to ever emerge from German cinema. Born in Vienna, he migrated to Berlin following service in World War One and became one of Germany's premier directors.

When Hitler came to power, however, Lang found himself at a potentially deadly crossroad. He was summoned by Joseph Goebbels, the Third Reich's infamous Director of Propaganda, and was offered the position of becoming the regime's head of filmmaking.

The sagacious director knew a trap ... Read More:

1940's "Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum" was one of the very best of the many movies featuring the iconic detective from the Honolulu Police Department. Sidney Toler does the honors as Charlie Chan, ably assisted by Victor Chen Yeung as Number Two Son.

The premise is a closed house murder mystery inside a Wax Museum of Crime, where a local radio station hosts a debate over a controversial murder case. Charlie Chan, who believes the man convicted of the crime was innocent, will debate the scientist on whose circumstancial ... Read More:

I have never seen a film which so well captures the terror that is in the heart of a child who lives in fear of an adult caretaker. The director has worked a miracle here. She has enabled us to see the world through the eyes of an abused child, and it is not easy to watch, but it is essential viewing for all who want to understand child abuse.

The scene in which Jason Flemyng's character convinces his girlfriend to let him back into the house, where he will continue to abuse her son, is one of the most devastating scenes I have ever ... Read More:

Another Chuck Heston foray into Sci-Filand, this time a future of global warming and over-population. Based on Harry Harrison's novel "Make Room! Make Room!", Heston stars as Det. Thorn investigating the murder of a prominent member of the Soylent Corporation -- the leading food supplier of the world. It is another the late 1960's early 1970's doom and gloom films -- like THE OMEGA MAN, A BOY AND HIS DOG, SILENT RUNNING, COLOSSUS: THE FORBIN PROJECT, et al. Edward G. There's a dialect coach listed in the credits, and her license should be yanked. And burned. Those accents are the worst I've ever heard in any number of crappy movies set in New Orleans. To be fair, maybe the plot was worthwhile, or maybe the performances got better as things developed. But we couldn't listen to it for more than 10 minutes.
