VHS : Paint Your Wagon
This move is a great timeless Classic. Great acting and good music. I did not know what to expect with Lee Marvin and Clint Easwood, two that were better known for hard gunfighting movies, in a musical, but it is great. I recommend this for all families. It will remain a part of my movie library for future viewing.

Now I own the (old) record, the CD, and the video. This is the greatest ethnic musical ever. I saw it first in New York in the 70's. Even though there were threats of violence, no one left the theater during the performance, and everyone left at the end - singing!

I have shown the video to my classes - every year during Black History Month and a couple of times during the year, and the students love it. They sit still, captured by the performance, the very gripping music.

VHS : Whoopee
Eddie Cantor, the singing Woody Allen of the 1930s, is a treat in this film. He sings "Making Whoopee" & "My Baby just cares for me"---2 classic standards of the musical glory years of the 1930s. What an era for musical comedy, huh. Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Groucho Marx, Bing Crosby, Burns & Allen...& Eddie Cantor, while not as great himself, merits inclusion within this esteemed group of greats. Do check out "Damsel in Distress," "Horse Feathers," "Going Hollywood," & "Swingtime." ... Read More:

VHS : Moulin Rouge (Special Edition)
Moulin Rouge is a movie that you really can't "sort of like." Either you do, or you don't. Warning: it can be taken to come off as a little corny, but as long as you can get past that...the movie is FABULOUS! The songs are "on point," the acting is commendable, and the story...wow, well you'll just have to see the movie for yourself!

136.Rose of Washington Square starring: Tyrone Power, Alice Faye, Al Jolson, William Frawley, Joyce Compton
directed by: Gregory Ratoff

VHS : Rose of Washington Square
Fanny Brice sued (and won big money) over the clear references to her own life, and Alice Faye is not the person to do justice to the song "My Man" (see Barbra Streisand in "Funny Girl" if you want real emotion) but this is still an engrossing film with Al Jolson performing some of his signature somgs.

Faye adds little to the role of a Ziegfeld star who marries poorly, but her likeability is all that is needed. Tyrone Power is all charm and attempts to add some substance to his role as a neer-do-well gambler. ... Read More:

Jeanette and Nelson movies succeeded more when done in black and white, and especially where Nelson was the hero and Jeanette the kind of damsell in distress..but there was always adventure...great sets and great
singing...
In Bittersweet, Nelson does'nt look like himself compared to other films,
maybe his health was not the best ... i even remember this film from
my youth and even then i knew that this one was not like the others.
Hey, Nelson and Jeanette only made 8 films together ...so Bittersweet ... Read More:

I remember watching this on TV as a child, and bought it to watch with my grandchildren - they loved it! Lauren & Hardy and other actors/comedians from the 1930's, 40's, and 50's should not be forgotten.
