For example, Wayne repeatedly uses his rifle to gesture toward someone, a flagrant mistake that a recruit with one week of training would not make. Appropriately, at the movie's end the sun sinks in the east as Wayne and a Vietnamese child gaze out to sea. The movie's grasp of the war in Vietnam is as confused as its grasp of geography. |

| I have the original from TV that I taped many, many years ago and have used in my classroom for over 20 years. When I ordered the VHS tape a few years back I was shocked by the number of scenes that were deleted in order to condense the movie to one videotape. These scenes were critical to the development of the plot and make a huge difference in following Paul's descent. I was very disappointed because I thought the original was an excellent movie for the classroom. |

| What happens when you mix the late Jack Benny, Carole Lombard, Robert Stack with Adolph Hitler? One very funny comedy. The script is great, very fast moving, and truly enjoyable to watch. Black and white never looked so elegant.

| The only bad news is that this challenging and brilliantly scripted and acted film is but a low-budget TV drama. Once that has been taken on board and expectations adjusted the point should be ignored in much the same way as we happily watch classics such as 'Brief Encounter' or 'Casablanca' even though 'unfortunately' shot in monochrome.

| There were lots of war movies made during and after WWII, and many of them starred Van Johnson. Most of them chose to look at the heroic side of battle or the lives of the people at home supporting the troops. Battleground is different. It examines the 101st Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge, a group of men fighting to stay alive and in good humor amid death, destruction, and fear. This is a grim story and much more realistic than the typical MGM film.

| This is a much overlooked crime thriller, with a delightful combination of charm and suspense. Selleck plays a succesful cat burglar in London just before the outbreak of WW11, coerced into helping a brutally determined British cop, brilliantly played by Bob Hoskins, into stealing a fortune of diamonds from the Nazis. The Nazis are suitably menacing, Hoskins roguishly deceitful, and the finale has a clever and unsuspected twist. All in all, one of the better crime thriller's I have seen. |
