VHS : Revolution (1985)
I think its easily the best movie about the American Revolution. The A&E videos of TV pressentations of "The Crossing" and "Benedict Arnold" are also very good. While how good it is is a matter of opinion, anyone who thinks that Gibson's silly movie is better doesn't know much about American history. This movie has the feeling of the 1770s and the criticism of Pacino's and Kinsky's accents is amusing. The residents of the americas came from every corner of the earth and regional accents were numerous. ... Read More:

VHS : Retreat Hell
An entertaining 'in your guts' movie, but recorded at the slowest possible VCR speed, thus resulting in a poor quality tape. Shame on the production facility [...] for not mentioning the fact in their product description.

VHS : Avalon
`Avalon' is a beautifully complete look at family life and how it becomes so easy for us to lose our focus on the important things in life the further we get from our roots. Barry Levinson, the writer and director of this beautiful piece of cinema, drew from personal experiences (members of his family even appear in the film) in order to create a very real and emotionally connected film that anyone can enjoy and relate to. At its heart it is a film about family, regardless of class distinction or nationality, and we all ... Read More:

VHS : M*A*S*H TV Season One - 3 Tape Box Set
If I rated Films or TV Series based on whether I liked them, I would have rated the entire series a 5 or a 6. M*A*S*H is one of my top 10 TV Series of all time; though I am not a big fan of seasons 1-3. However there is a lot to be desired in this set because of what the DVD does not have. While it has every episode in the season and the quality of the DVD is wonderful, there seems to be something lacking.

The DVD itself dose not have a lot of feature. You can not "play all", there are no filmographies or even ... Read More:

VHS : Little Women (1933)
The most interesting thing about the three film versions of "Little Women" is comparing them to each other or comparing each of them to Alcott's book.

What makes them so difficult to choose between is that the casting of the four title characters is the critical element, and each film featured at least one actress whose performance was clearly superior to her character's portrayal in the other two films.

This all star cast would include Jean Parker (Beth) in the 1933 version, Janet Leigh (Meg) in the 1949 version, ... Read More:

VHS : The Undefeated
I've seen this film several times and I always find it disturbing because it strikes me as classic Hollywood in that though the Civil War is central to the film, at no point is slavery ever mentioned. Which is to say that the film turns on the reconciliation of North and South and their mutual interests, which come to the fore as they are fighting Mexicans. Though I must say that the scene with Wayne and Hudson swigging bourbon as they recount the war is entertaining, ultimately, the film's unwillingness to explore the nature of their difference--which could ... Great war film I just watched on this silent classics VHS, which at the moment is the only place its available. There's nothing wrong with this release at all, in fact it has a score by the wonderful Carl Davis, the highest sought-after silent film composer. Nice picture, and a great film.

VHS : Breaking the Code
There are probably only a handful of actors alive as good as Derek Jacobi; this account of Alan Turing's life and disgrace in the eyes of the British secret service demonstrates why he's so good. The empathy and outrage the viewer feels on behalf of the embattled mathmetician finds its equal in the awe for his intellect that the solution of the enigma ciphers merits. Much like Prick Up Your Ears, this film shows up societal prejudice and how damaging it can be in the face of true creative genius.

This is truly one of Clint Eastwood best country movies. Great action and even better one liners.

VHS : Great Waldo Pepper
In regards to "The Great Waldo Pepper" I agree with most of the DVD/vhs viewers: Lets re-release it widescreen!
I just watched it on a DVD I tranferred from VHS three years ago! The original VHS was recorded from the Disney Channel back in December of '05.
I did notice on the end credits it was filmed in Todd-AO. This means it was done in a widescreen Cinemascope process. The only difference here is that Todd-AO is filmed at 30 frames per second - so it would be easier to transfer to DVD and a higher quality as well. Maybe Universal is waiting to release it on Blu-Ray!? The ... Read More:
