VHS : Misery
If ever a movie has made me feel as trapped as its protagonist does, Misery stands right up there. I must admit that I have never read King's novel on which this film was based, but it didn't stop the movie from chilling my bones. It was an effort just to sit through it; it's that intense. James Caan and especially Kathy Bates deliver truly spectacular performances as popular (and, to his grudge, commercialised) writer Paul Sheldon and his psychotic "number one fan" Annie Wilkes. The movie has a ... Read More:

VHS : Abbott & Costello: Meet Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde / Mov
The film opens in early 20th century London. A cloaked figure attacks and kills a person walking on the sidewalk. Another unsolved murder. Women are demonstrating for the vote - they put on a song and dance for equal rights! There is a protest from onlookers and comic violence. Bruce Adams is the reporter who covers this happening. Tubby and Slim are employed as Bobbies to study police methods. Dr. Jekyll is studying the human mind so as to control mankind for its betterment. Does he have a secret in his ... Read More:

VHS : Enemy Mine
Being in a mood for science fiction, I settled in to watch Enemy Mine as it opened with a good old-fashioned space battle, never imagining I would be moved to tears more than once before this most unexpectedly heart-touching film came to an end. I don't think I've shed a science-fiction related tear since E.T., but Enemy Mine is just an indescribably beautiful and moving film. Heck, I think I even like Dennis Quaid now, but Lou Gossett, Jr., turned in an even more remarkable performance than Quaid. The man should ... Read More:

VHS : 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" is a robust adventure movie, filled to the brim with visuals ranging from awe-inspiring to bizarre, wall-to-wall excitement, and a constant air of intrigue and wonderment. Even in the hands of the Walt Disney Studios, there was plenty of room for the production to falter. Jules Verne's classic novel features deep characterizations and drips with mystery, and the pressure to soften the story in order to appeal to younger audiences was surely intense. Thankfully, Walt Disney and director ... Read More:

VHS : Star Trek - The Original Series, Episode 42: The Trouble With Tribbles
This is definitely one of the most humorous of all Star Trek episodes, although I rank it below the original series episode, "A Piece of the Action." It also contains two of the best lines that have ever been uttered in any Star Trek episode.
According to the terms of the Organian peace treaty between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, any uninhabited planet will belong to the side that can make the best case that it can develop it. Sherman's planet is the next planet to be controlled and the Federation is basing its' case ... Read More:

VHS : Doctor Who - Planet of the Spiders
This is not one of the best Dr Who stories in my opinion. I bought this on VHS because I wanted to have something of DR Who and something of Jon Pertwee. This is Jon Pertwee's last appearance as Dr Who until the Five Doctors. He gets replaced by Tom Baker who plays the fourth doctor, although in my opinion not as good as Jon Pertwee who is the best.
I didn't find the story that interesting about the spiders as I don't like insects of any kind and the fact that they can talk is ridiculous. When the Doctor and Sarah got to Metebelis III it looked ... Read More:

VHS : Gremlins (Clam)
Don't expose them to sunlight. Don't let them get wet. And under no circumstances feed them after midnight.

Those are the rules for the now-legendary mogwai, adorable little fuzzballs who transform if you break the last rule. And "Gremlins" is a gloriously unconventional Christmas movie -- a postcard-pretty view of suburban middle-America, splattered with gore, nasty little gremlins and a truly wicked sense of humour (expressed often in movie send-ups).

Randall (Hoyt Axton) spots a tiny adorable creature -- a mogwai -- in a small Chinatown ... Read More:

VHS : Alice to Nowhere
Alice to Nowhere was a 'ripping yarn' novel from Evan Green. Sold to Crawfords, who produced it as a two part miniseries, so most of the detail of the book has been kept in the movie. This is not a sparse production. The movie is true to the book, except the main character has had a name change from Fred Crawford to Dave Mitchell - Hmmm. Strong performances, particularly by John Waters as Johnny.

The Birdsville track today is a track in name only, but should you plan to visit the 'Never Never' country, this movie would be a good introduction to the landscapes ... Read More:

VHS : The Invisible Man
Many reviewers say the film's special effects look "dated". Well, DUH! What do you expect?? The movie is almost 80 freakin' years old, people! And you know what? Like all of the Whale films, it holds up better than 99% of the films made back then. Believe it or not folks, just because a movie is in black and white and doesn't have blood/gore does not automatically make it boring or bad. For example: there was a great, unbelievably frightening little film made in the early '60's called The Haunting. It was a b/w haunted house drama with Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, Russ Tamblyn ...
