VHS : Leather Boys
This British New Wave film is in the social comment style of A Taste of Honey and A Kind of Loving and it is one of the best of these films. The relationship between the two mates in the story has been misunderstood since gay liberation and so therefore has the film. The film is about the disillusionment of youth in the modern world. The story has two young mates enjoying the freedom of the roads on their motorbikes while facing having to grow up in the modern adult world. One of them gets married ... Read More:

VHS : Walk on the Wild Side (1962)
First of all, just to clear the boards, this really can't be considered an adaptation of Nelson Algren's novel. Although it flirts with some taboo subjects, things never get beyond mere flirtation. And, given Kennedy-era year it was made, it's impossible to expect a faithful depiction of the text from that time and place.

Laurence Harvey's lovesick Dove Linkhorn arrives in New Orleans searching for the gal that stole his heart. Complications arrive in that the "gal" is a) now a popular and highly ... Read More:

VHS : Norman Is That You
I'm old enough to have seen Norman... Is That You? in first release. When Norman announced that he was so depressed and confused that he joined the Navy, it hit home. You see, the first time I saw the film I was on the USS Oklahoma City, in the Navy and dealing with my own homosexuality. It helped me to accept myself. Later, when I finally worked up the nerve to start coming out, it helped again.

A previous reviewer wrote of how true it was to the experience of coming out in a black family. I'm white, ... Read More:

VHS : Object of My Affection
This rather complicated little tale has stood the test of time. It is still funny, still warm-hearted, and still daring. Aniston and Rudd make a lovable couple whom we all root for, even though we know it won't and can't work. Screenwriter Wasserstein has written a Shakepearean comedy of desperate tears that comes to a happy ending, with all the people sorting themselves out into the right mates: straights go with straights, gays with gays, and everyone lives happily ever after. The actors are 'stars' but they seem very unglamorous; ... Read More:

VHS : Bound (1996)
A handywoman (the alluring Gina Gershon) and a gangster's moll (the sensual Jennifer Tilly) fall in love and plan to run off with two millions bucks.

This simple plot is enriched and even enhanced with a not so common visual refinement, and enough tension to capture your whole interest from start to finish.

As you may expect, there is a dose of acidic humour all long the movie but Joe Pantoliano steal the show as the gangster who suddenly finds himself trapped in the middle of the road and has to think faster than ... Read More:

VHS : Glen Or Glenda
In my opinion, this is the worst movie ever made. Plan 9 From Outer Space is like Lawrence Of Arabia compared to Glen or Glenda. I gave it 2 stars because Bela Lugosi's parts are funny. Starts with Bela in a laboratory making some ridiculous Ed Wood speech containing classic quotes as "MAN IS WRONG BECAUSE HE DOES RIGHT. RIGHT BECAUSE HE DOES WRONG! PULL DA STRINGS!" Then the film is all over the place with stock footage, Wood dressed in women clothes, etc. Some whiney voice saying "If the creator wanted us to fly, he'd given us wings." I don't ... Read More:

VHS : Suroh: Alien Hitchhiker
This low, low, low budget film is odd and kinky, and explores the nature of spirituality and lust. Paul, a journalist on his way to a UFO convention, encounters an injured alien, Suroh, along the road. Suroh trances Paul into taking care of him, and the two develop a special bond. Paul has to save Suroh from earthly evil forces, escorting him to an "interdimensional window" so that he can return home. The FX are very colorful and the music is cool electronica. A strangely humorous, beautiful film...Call 1-800-229-8575 to buy a copy - it's just $19.95 plus S/H.

This is perhaps the only decent DVD of this movie available. The previous no-extras release was pan-and-scan, but the print appears to have been a tad cleaner than the one used for this wide-screen edition. The extras are all right: The best is about how the film came to the big screen. The weakest is the oddly edited collection of outtakes. The "behind the scenes with..." extra is good, but it is clear that the interviews were each only a few seconds long and nothing like the extended commentary you'll hear on, say, a Peter Jackson extra. The audio commentary is probably ... Read More:
