I have loved this film since it was first released in Canada. I saw it at a theatre on Yonge Street in Toronto at a Saturday matinee where the kiss between the two men started a mini-riot sparked by some teen-aged boys in the audience. They were probably expecting a gangster movie !
I have over the years recommended the film, and loaned my VHS and DVD copies to people younger than myself who universally seem to have the same reaction, "It is so Seventies !" Never mind that it is one of the ... Read More:

This little movie is probably still my favorite of all time. As a gay man coming out during the 80's, I remember watching this late one night on Cinemax and amazed at how uplifting and positive it was. It was the first film I ever saw that showed gay men as leading 'normal' lives, and not closeted, or evil. Finally, something I identified with. I still think to this day all straight people should watch this film, and then sometimes I think it's too personal to share with anyone. I guess that's why I have waited ... Read More:

This is one of Fassbinder's best films, a really incisive, sad, and pointed commentary on class differences and exploitation. Fox, wonderfully played by Fassbinder himself, is a lower class carnival worker who wins the lottery, and is welcomed (or seduced) into the upper class gay culture. He naively and sadly believes that they genuinely like him, but they are just using him for his money. He essentially is used by the upper class until his money runs out. They jettison him, like an abattoir does with the carcases ... Read More:

It had been many years since I saw this film in its original theatrical release. It was as good as I remember, and the performances were compelling in a way that's gotten lost in most current gay cinema. Cinema verite for the pink screen. The tension between the two characters drives this movie along at full force and the actors due both justice. While I like Mysterious Skin a lot, and it has better production values as a later effort from Gregg Araki, The Living End still packs the most wallup in a gay film. Fantastic all over again.

I ordered this by accident, thinking it was "A Beautiful Life." I liked this movie very much. I am not gay but am sympathetic. I think the movie captures an awakening love that neither character was suspecting. I liked all the characters and especially the music. I was not familiar with Mama Cass (I am a classical music lover) but I thought it was very appropriate for this movie. The ending was beautiful.

Not one of my favorite Lesbian movies, but I ordered it because everyone said I should own a copy. It was a typical so-so movie...cute chick mets another cute chick, they fall in love, both have issues that tear them apart, they get back together.

he movie tends to deal with prejudice in its forms...and the message is...prejudice is BAD. And we hear it over and over and over again.

My favorite character was the transgendered mtf. S/he made the film interesting, otherwise it was a so-so film.

159.Female Trouble starring: Divine, David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pearce, Mink Stole, Edith Massey
directed by: John Waters

Divine is a goddess of crime and beauty. Mink Stole steals every scene she is in (for 14 taffy you don't look so good). There are many elements that made there way from this film to Water's big budget Hairspray. Mostly the teenage years. Not for the faint of heart but so funny. This may be Waters first film with a plot.

After watching this film I just felt good for days. Great story! It was refreshing to watch some very real people living real lives and being sincere about their feelings. The story is wonderful and touching and the acting is excellent! Well done!
