| This is my favorite Jarman film. I've seen it many times, and it gets more profound every time I see it. This film and The Last of England are Jarman's two greatest films. Jarman weaves his own personal, incredibly lyrical tapestry while shooting in 8mm, 16mm, video, and 35mm, and editing it into an amazing film. | For anyone who thinks that Julie Andrews is nothing more than a mere song and dance routine, or the voice behind that infectiously annoying `hills are alive' song I have only one thing to say to you; watch `Victor/Victoria'. | I struggled a bit with how many stars to give this. The quality, both technical and plot, were surprisingly good. The sound and music were super.
That said, and this will seem a bit coarse, I like my trash to be trashier than this. When I think "lesbian vampire," I don't think about it being implied. I think about it being a bit more in my face than in my head. I did like that a bit of the dialogue is in a Rob Zombie song. I had wondered where that sound byte came from. EDIT: The song ... | The only thing that saddens me about this movie, aside from the heartbreaking climax of a brutal attack that you must simply see to savor, along with the fact that this priceless artifact never made it to the "Big Screen" was poor advertising.

| If this film weren't so well done, it could be dismissed as exploitive. It's the tale of a young boy and a soldier (who truly can't be more than a man in his early 20s) who fall in love with each other. Because the subject is so jarring, I was waiting for the moment when it would all come undone. That moment never came. It is impossible to decide whether Raul Julia (sorely missed)or William Hurt gave the best performance. They were both mesmerizing. Watching the subtle changes in character as the film progressed was such an acting "Tour De Force".
