| No offence to DiCaprio but Richard Chamberlain's duel role of "The Man in the Iron Mask" was definitely better. It amazes me only foreign versions of this on DVD are available. Why not a Region 1 version? Chamberlain did three wonderful Dumas classics, this "The Count of Monte Cristo", and "The Three Musketeers". The first two are not available on Region 1 DVDs after all these years. Great movie that I highly recommend for the whole family. Let's hope someone like Criterion gets the rights for both ... | before I saw this movie. And talk about type casting, Vanessa Redgrave is perfect as Izzy. She's just as dizzy. Izzy and her family were quite the bull chip artists. And these free spirit moms that don't think its necessary to marry the father of their offspring are the most selfish cows on the face of this miserable planet. Oh well at least she got preggy by wealthy men.But, it's the children who suffer. The movie was entertaining and Vanessa did a good job capturing the era. enjoy! |

| This is the only sonic movie ever to be made since it first came out in late eigities. This is and old dvd is somewhat difficult to find in local stores try to see if you can find it used a CD ware house or something like that. I got it there along with the second Lethal weapon for under $20 with the tax included. They do have this for sale used on amazom but the copies are severly limited only have about 7 used copies currently avilable for sale. | We just saw this movie on TV and while it probably deserved the 2 stars the TV rating gave it, we had a ball watching it. This movie has it all! Cowboys, Indians, Train Robberies, Mexican Missions, Prostitutes, Gushing Fake Blood, and Samurai. What more could you ask for in a Western. |

| I saw the 1968 version of Mayerling in April of 1969 at a base theater
while I was in basic training in the Air Force. I note this because the subject of the film and its well-dressed actors and its European scenery were so different from the military surroundings and military "dress" which I was enduring at the time. I had not heard about the story of Prince Rudolph and Princess Maria before.
