VHS : Arabesque
Three years on the heels of Stanley Donen's delightful Charade comes his do-over effort Arabesque, a romantic spy thriller set in London. The leading man is Gregory Peck, who plays American David Pollock, a visiting professor of ancient languages who is persuaded by the Arab prime minister to infiltrate the household of a Middle Eastern oil tycoon, who is suspected of nefarious doings. This soon catapults him into the Hitchcockian world of deadly secret agents, spy intrigue, frantic chases and a ... Read More:

VHS : Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Pedro Almodovar, an internationally and critically acclaimed Spanish director, takes eccentricity and neuroses to new heights in WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, one of his most well known films. VHS : Au Revoir Les Enfants
This tragic coming-of-age tale (filmed in French) is an all-time classic that took forever to make it to DVD because of a longstanding family squabble. Unlike the seemingly ancient VHS version (only 20 years old, but film decomp makes it look like WWII newsreel footage), the digital transfer solves sound and visual problems -- especially the subtitles, which were annoying oversized in the original. As for the plot -- it's long, like the movie, but in a nutshell: Jewish boy goes to German school pretending to ... Read More:

VHS : Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
I saw the musical on Broadway several years ago, and I have to say that the film does an excellent job of capturing the engery of a live performance. The cast is superb, the music is still fresh, the jokes are still funny, and the layers of reality are done exttremely well. I recently viewed this and Joseph: King of Dreams back-to-back, and there is no doubt that this is the far better retelling of the story.
This mucical is appropriate for even small children, but it is not a children's show.
I would ... Read More:

VHS : Jesus of Nazareth (3pc)
This video is not as biblically accurate as I was led to believe by the other reviews. I purchased this to augment my bible study teaching so I may be a little tougher on the movie then most people. Dramatic license is taken in several places because of the need to let the viewer know some of the backround as well as the portraying of the actual incidents in Jesus' life. The movie is already 6 hours long so I can understand the necessity of this but some of decisions by the producer are almost ridiculous. Young Jesus ... Read More:

VHS : Blithe Spirit
Better to get the British version and import it while using a non-regional DVD then sit through the affront to the eyes that the American company is trying to sell us. David Lean's Technicolor is always exquisite, and never more so than in the complicated color designs of BLITHE SPIRIT, in which Charles and Ruth Condomine (Rex Harrison and Constance Cummings) sail through a variety of tweedy outfits that are so brilliantly detailed you can "read" every tooth in the houndstooth. (And Cummings has some wonderful period evening ... Read More:

VHS : Clockwork Orange
Been a while since I saw this movie (30yrs).
Forgot how violent it is. Had me stunned for a moment or two.
The props are somewhat old fashioned, but the style, story, acting, soundtrack and photography is superb. The BR transition is not to bad.
A collectors item well worth the money.

VHS : Goodbye Again
This love story, initially called Aimez-vous Brahms (Do You Like Brahms?) contains all of the themes necessary to make it a continuous classic.
Three major performances given by three tremendous actors. Ingrid Bergman in one of her later roles is heart-breakingly beautiful, and Anthony Perkins gives a performance so joyful, vulnerable and nuanced, I find something different in it every time I see it.
Add to it a time in Paris that is magical and a score by Brahms that is unforgettable.
When will this be available in DVD?!
