I was under the impression that "Wings of Desire" was a unique love story and I guess it is. However that aspect of the film was almost a distraction compared to the real nature of the movie. For me, "Wings of Desire" is a brilliant cinematic concept of angels in the world around us. If that sounds overly religious or unappealling, hold on. The way director Wim Wenders brings his vision to life is the essential beauty of this movie. We almost get the impression that these angels punch in and ... Read More:

VHS : A Cry In The Wild
While the movie wasn't nearly as good as the book, it was an excellent teaching tool for my fifth graders. Many are reluctant readers. After reading the book and viewing the movie, the book won hands down. Mission accomplished. Although the movie was somewhat of a disappointment, the service I received was excellent. If I need to purchase movies or materials for my classroom in the future, amazon.com will be one of my first stops.

VHS : The Night of the Generals
German Army officer Grau, a colonel in Wehrmacht Intelligence, is talking to a French policeman, Inspector Morand, in Paris. The year is 1944. For two years Grau has been investigating the psychopathic murder of a prostitute that took place in Warsaw. The suspects are three Wehrmacht general officers. Says Inspector Morand as he wonders why Grau is so persistent in his investigation, "Murder is the occupation of generals."

"Then let us say," Grau replies, "what is admirable on the large scale is monstrous ... Read More:

34.Verdi - La Traviata / Levine, Stratas, Domingo starring: Teresa Stratas, Plácido Domingo, Cornell MacNeil, Allan Monk, Pina Cei

VHS : Verdi - La Traviata / Levine, Stratas, Domingo
Domingo sings beautifully, Stratas less so but looks and acts the part. The biggest problem is there are so many cuts and shortened arias that you could almost call this "extended highlights". And Zeferelli over-produces, particularly with camera work. If you want a movie version get Anna Moffo's of over 30 years ago. Now there was a Violetta!

VHS : Cats - The Musical (Commemorative Edition)
I love this musical, I saw it for the first time when I was 8, now I'm 18 and I still love to watch it! It is exactly how I remember, but much clearer, I would recommend it to previous viewers and to families with young children.

VHS : Surviving Picasso
I have looked for this movie for years to come on DVD...but alas it hasn't happened yet. This movie, which is based on a book, truly shows what it was like to have to live (or 'survive' as you will) with someone who is egocentric and artistic. I don't understand why people wanted this movie to explain Picasso as a person...the title tell you its about someone who SURVIVED Picasso. This man didn't want to be understood. He didn't care about that so appreciate this movie for what it is, a great example of how someone can almost be 'swallowed' ... Read More:

VHS : Little Dorrit - Part One : Nobody's Fault
I purchased this adaption of Little Dorrit several years ago on laserdisc and I enjoyed it, but I found that to fully appreciate this film it was necessary to watch it to the end. The point to this film adaption of a Dicken's book was to tell the same story twice but through differing viewpoints. Certainly the story is not as interesting or as gripping as Dickens more widely read novels and the film could have been improved by cutting and picking up the pace, but I believe the director accomplished his goal.

The first half of the film is dark and ... Read More:

VHS : Oliver
Ripe strawberries ripe....where else can you hear these words in a song? Oliver! is one of those classics that you'll never forget. It is in league with Annie (1984) and Sound of Music. Very deserving of the Academy Oscar award of its time. And is timeless...hehe.

Now if only it came out on Blu-Ray!

VHS : Goodbye Mr. Chips (1969)
I just could not believe after all these years, a DVD of Goodbye Mr. Chips is going to be released. Ever since i watched the movie back in 1969 in Hong Kong, the movie and the songs were in my minds always. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend a boarding school two years later and experienced the life of boarding school. The two songs of "You and I" and "Walk through the world with me" are just pure magic and i wish the music producers could give much more credits to these two songs. I certainly would recommend to old and new lovers to have these two songs downloaded ... Read More:
