VHS : Time Machine (1960)
This is one of the best movies ever made. This isn't just a classic, this movie is one of the movies that paved the way for other sci fi movies. This is as much of a classic as Wizard of Oz or Gone with the Wind and in my opinion this is better than both of those movies put together.

VHS : Magic Christian
The Magic Christian is an inspired, wacky sixties film, based on the brilliant novel by Terry Southern. Appearing with Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr in the film are Pythons John Cleese and Graham Chapman, Goon Show alumnus Spike Milligan, Christopher Lee, Racquel Welch, Roman Polanski, and Yul Brenner as a lounge-singing transvestite. Paul McCartney wrote the film's theme song 'Come And Get It' performed by Badfinger. I have to admit, this movie makes me laugh. It's a great vehicle for Peter Sellers ... Read More:

In plain English the producer has nothing to say but manage to drag forever. The movie is pretty close to reality but I dont watch movies to see how close to reality they are. This movie reminded me " Showgirls " where a lot of half-naked chicks run around for no reason at all.

VHS : Napoleon
Upon seeing the restored and re-released film in 1981, I placed this silent at the top of my list of favorite foreign films from the silent era. The use of triptych, color, and daring camera angles is breathtaking! Gance was one of film's innovative pioneering geniuses. Although at times the acting is a bit stilted, the viewer must remember that these actors are turn-of-the-century schooled; today's acting style is far different and more relaxed. The electricity sparks between Napoleon and Josephine. Finally, ... Read More:

VHS : Weapons of the Spirit
Weapons of the Spirit is the story of a small French town that saved at least 3000 Jews during the Second World War. Their history as a Heugenot (Protestant) community that had endured centuries of persecution and their reverence for the people of the Old Testament (the Jews) combined with their strong sense of justice made them just naturally protect the most vulnerable at great risk to themselves. The video asks relevant questions for today. Who will stand up for the most vulnerable today? What makes one group put ... Read More:

VHS : Full Metal Jacket
This film is very close to the nerve centers of practically all Marines because it so very realistically depicts their experiences in either boot camp and/or Vietnam. There isn't one that didn't feel a mysterious tingle in the back of his neck and a shiver down his spine when he first heard Lee Ermy calling cadence in the boot camp segment of the movie. Nuf said about the film except to say that the video and audio transfer to blu-ray is outstanding. The anamorphic treatment that allows it to fit 16X9 TVs is excellent. ... Read More:

Okay, so maybe you wouldn't watch the movie for the dancing alone -- though that part of it is fun. But the story is so touching. Check out how noble and selfless Danny's love is: how fearlessly he pursues uptown girl Lucy, but without allowing himself to be treated like a doormat. His character alone is worth watching the movie 100 times for...but the dancing and fun Latin beats add a lot as well.

VHS : Monty Python's Life of Brian
A lot has been said and do not wish to repeat it. In my mind this is by far the most complete and timeless of the Monty Python classics ... I personally love The Meaning of Life but it resonates mostly with those coming of age in the 70s and early 80s as many of the topics were current then (sex education, antiwar sentiment etc).

Life of Brian will never lose its appeal but it requires a copy with English subtitles even for native English speakers to catch all the brilliance.

It is moreover an essential piece ... Read More:

VHS : Last Holiday
Poignant and meditative story about a failed salesman plans to quietly live the last months of his life in a resort. And this unexpected place will ironically become of special significance for all the guests who spent their holydays there.

Alec Guiness is superb in this role. Beatrice Campbell is lovable to watch.

We are expecting its next release on DVD format.

VHS : A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
I love Richard Lester's style of direction( Hard Day's Night, The Ritz, Three Muskateer's etc). Zero Mostel in a role that rivals his performance in the Producer's will have you rolling on the floor. Phil Silvers is at his best as a wheeler dealer. The Roman Empire lasted in spite of the shenanigans here. A story of mixed up love and misdirection. Will they pull it off or will they fall to the conquerer who raped Thrace thrice? Anyway it's a very funny movie at a greta price.
