VHS : The Big Blue (Le Grand Bleu)
Big Blue is a joy to watch. The scenery, on land or in the sea is beautiful. The acting is very good. The movie is humorous and mellow. There is a spiritual theme that unfolds towards the end of the movie, but I will not be specific lest I spoil it for others to uncover.

VHS : Cleopatra (Special Edition)
I have seen this movie several times and purchased it to obtain the disc with extra features. The disc would not play due to something being on it that I was unable to remove. I would like to know if there is a way to obtain the extras disc without flaws.
Thank you.

VHS : Pink Floyd - The Wall
Of all the efforts put in bt Pink Floyd, this is the one essential Roger Waters compilation. This product is a journey into madness. It's about the alienation he feels between the band and the fans.

VHS : All the Mornings of the World (Tous les matins du monde)
I didn't realize as I watched the film the first time that it was inspired by actual lives -- Sainte-Colombe and Marin Marais are important figures in the history of music -- nor was it clear to me, until I did some research, how the film connected with important theological controversies of the 17th century. Hearing that Sainte-Colombe was "a reformer," I took that to mean that he was a Calvinist and thus was confused to see him, in a later scene, in what was clearly a Catholic church. (The film makes me want to know more ... Read More:

VHS : Breaking the Code
There are probably only a handful of actors alive as good as Derek Jacobi; this account of Alan Turing's life and disgrace in the eyes of the British secret service demonstrates why he's so good. The empathy and outrage the viewer feels on behalf of the embattled mathmetician finds its equal in the awe for his intellect that the solution of the enigma ciphers merits. Much like Prick Up Your Ears, this film shows up societal prejudice and how damaging it can be in the face of true creative genius.

Everything I wanted to say to praise this film is already been written.
I just want to add: Should we change the name of the movie to The Meeting
Venus Massacre and insert a scene with Britney Spears singing Un Bel Di
with a disco beat?. You would find the widescreen special edition dvd
in the stores in a few days. How Sad.

VHS : Window to Paris
The struggle between the inteligencia and the average people in a rapidly-changing society is one of many themes of this movie. If "Moscow Doesn't Believe in Tears" shows how life was during the years of stagnation (70s), this movie shows the life right after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Nicely set in St. Petersburg in the early 90s, when the Soviet Union has just collapsed, it depicts how life really was during those first few hard years - the transition from socialism to capitalism.

When the people in a communal apartment find a window into Paris, ... Read More:
