| I have always adored Billie Holiday since I was a kid. She is, to me, the greatest female jazz singer in history. I was about 11 when I first saw this movie and I was naturally excited when I learned that there was a movie about Billie holiday's life I was completely horrified and disappointed with this movie, Diana's acting, and the singing. | Cicely Tyson is one of the greatest actresses in the world at least in my opinion. In this film, she carries elder Flora Henning Palmer with grace, dignity, class, strength and beauty despite the obstacles that her character has to face such as the cold-blooded murder of her husband as he was killed by white men for simply stealing cotton and they get away with it. | This movie is my favorite blaxploitation flick of all time...the big problem is that the xenon versions of the movie are cut. There's some sleazy video store in the neighborhood that has the un-cut vhs version. I have no idea why xenon buys the rights then cuts up the film. |
