| I know this film has been trashed by critics both black and white for its heavy content (i.e. stautory rape scene, and interracial sex scene), but this film was given an X rating. Melvin Van Peebles, who is highly regarded as the "Godfather of Modern Black Cinema" put everything he had on the line to get this film made, despite the Supreme Court, death threats. Bill Cosby even co-financed the film.

My only criticisms are, it didn't show enough of the fights that it featured, and it should have featured more of Joe's fights. In other words, I would gladly have paid twice the price for a video that covered Joe Louis' career in greater depth. Nevertheless, it is well worth the money, and it belongs ... Read More: |

There are interviews with the girls' family, friends, teachers... Spike Lee uses actual film footage from the era to help viewers have a deeper understanding of what things were like during that era. It is a moving documentary and is appropriate for students grades 6 and up. |

| If you're looking to hear Robert Johnson's songs, you should probably buy one of the awesome collections availible. As this legend and musical genius has now been dead for 65 years, I'm not sure what the other reviewers were looking for besides other people covering his songs, and talk about his life... that's all we have now. | 'Am I Black enough for you?' That was the question the Right, Righteous, Reverend, Deke O'Malley asked of the people. I saw this when I was 14, in 1971 and have never forgotten it. Calvin Lockhart, Raymond St. Jacques, Godfrey Cambridge and the Drop-Dead Gorgeous...Judy Pace, made me sit in the State Theater and watch this at least 4 times running...right on my brother...Right On!!!

| This movie IS for those of us who love to laugh...and OMG, this is one big, unintentional laughfest. I'm so glad this one is available on DVD. One line in particular still gets my girlfriends and me giggling: "We've got to Whack the Attack!" This is one example of one truly low-budget flick. And power to it!
