VHS : Toni Morrison: Profile of a Writer
Using Ms. Morrison's experience of the actual writing of and the content of Beloved, this video captures a most amazing discussion of the degradation of slavery as told by the victims of the "peculiar institution."

Ms. Morrison explains and details the apparatus known as the bit and why it was used. This was one of the most oppressive of oppressive instruments used to restrain another human being. As she states,

"It should have destroyed the person so harnessed ... BUT! It did not!" ... Read More:

Many teachers in today's school systems must feel helpless. Years ago there was the threat of corporal punishment, if not the actual fear of parent retaliation. Now, however, children are spoiled, often without strong male-role models (particularly in the more urban areas), there is simply no respect for authority or desire to contribute meaningfully to society, all parents think their child is a perfect little snowflake, and the outlook for a teacher in a troubled area is particularly bleak and hopeless.

VHS : Weather Underground
This is a great documentary that starts with the SDS and how some of there members formed the weather underground movement. It is not a one sided story glorifying the movement which you can get with many films that deal with subjects like this. It actually made me sad because a lot of these people had good intentions but just did not get it together. This definitely broadened my understanding of the weathermen

147.Dolemite starring: Brenda Banks (II), Jana Bisbing, Brenda DeLong, Pat Haywood, Karolynn Hill

VHS : Dolemite
I have only this to say: The scene where Dolemite is hovering above the camera as he makes sweet love to YOU, the viewer... You can feel his manly prowess coming right through the TV! Blacktastic!

148.Real Malcolm X starring: Dan Rather, Maya Angelou, Ray Barron, Ella Collins, Rod Collins

VHS : Real Malcolm X
I recommend this video to anyone wanting to know more about Malcolm X, and anyone wanting to teach others about Malcolm X - Parents, Teachers/Professors. This video covered so much about him in a very short amount of time. I was suprised to see some of the footage! There were several photographs and live footage that I've never seen in other documentaries and books. Overall, this documentary did a very good job of showing the transition Malcolm went through...From beginning to the devestating end...

VHS : Love Jones
I love this movie. It's so realistic and well acted. I love those 'just-can't-you-go' type of love stories. "Love Jones" is a classic.
