Hell Up In Harlem is a sequel to Black Caesar. Black Caesar, clearly "inspired by" the classic gangster film, Little Caesar, showed the evolution of Tommy Gibbs (Fred Williamson) from errand boy for the mob to Black Godfather of Harlem. It was never in any danger of winning an Oscar, but it was a classic blaxploitation movie and well worth seeing.

You had to suspend your disbelief a little to enjoy it, (the Black Gangsters are better than the Italian ones at everything, including speaking Sicilian ... Read More:

VHS : Jazz on a Summer's Day
Jazz on a Summer's Day captures a day in time that for me is magic. Each musician at the top of his or her game, set for all who lived through that era to enjoy again.
Those too young to have known this time will enjoy seeing some of the Jazz legends of the era.
The Newport Jazz Festival was a legendary meeting of the new and the old.
The open car scenes at the beginning and at the end capture the spirit of the times!

VHS : Eyes on the Prize: The Time Has Come (1964-1966)
Eyes on the Prize is certainly on of the best television programs ever made. It is absolutely riveting to watch - something really rare for documentaries.

THE TIME HAS COME (1964-1966) is program 7 in the series - and one of the best episodes. It focuses on MALCOLM X, BLACK PANTHERS, and STOKELY CARMICHAEL.

In the South and in the urban North, leaders emerged who articulated the black communities' sense of urgency and anger. THese were voices who helped tranform the civil rights movement into a broader struggle for human rights, ... Read More:

VHS : Intruder in the Dust
This was a very good classic movie about racism. I am too young to recognize any of the actors and I wonder if any of the Black actors really experienced racism while filming this movie. Example, did they have to go through the back doors of restaurants and hotels. Also, maybe did they have to drink out of the "white only" water fountains while filming. This movie had to be surreal to the Black actors in this movie because I am quite sure they experienced racism in their everyday real lives.

139.Dolemite starring: Brenda Banks (II), Jana Bisbing, Brenda DeLong, Pat Haywood, Karolynn Hill

VHS : Dolemite
I have only this to say: The scene where Dolemite is hovering above the camera as he makes sweet love to YOU, the viewer... You can feel his manly prowess coming right through the TV! Blacktastic!

VHS : He Got Game
He Got Game hit home for me, because I don't have a father in my life. As an aspring filmaker I always have dreams that my father will come back at a crucial point in my life as Denzel did to Ray in this movie. This a movie that every father and son should see. The cinematography, script and acting are all top notch. One of Spike's best films since Clockers.
