VHS : Jungle Fever
Jungle Fever is a film about interacial dating, black romance, fathers & sons and many other deep issues. The film hit home for me because as a black man who is married to a loving wife who happens to be white. It opened my eyes to a lot of things. I realized that love sees no color and iif you love someone color doesn't matter. Samuel L.Jackson desevered a Oscar Nod for his role as Gator the crack head. Spike delivers once again.

VHS : Mandela
This is a great documentary that seems to capture the full drama of the life of one of the greatest men of our times. This portrait of Nelson Mandela reflects upon the triumph of freedom; the strength of his character, and also gives an honest look at the man's flawed personal life as well. It also gives one a feeling for the breadth and majesty of the South Africa and the African people.

The soundtrack and cinematography are also outstanding.

Now this movie is one baad muther-shut-your mouth! I thought this was an excellent movie that tried to portray the life of a private detective in the Harlem of the early 70's in a gritty and hence more realistic manner. As a result, this movie is certainly dated and unmistakenably of that time and place as witnessed by the lingo and slang used liberally throughout and yet I found it still very enjoyable to watch even today.

This cat Shaft reminded me a lot of Humphrey Bogart's character in the ... Read More:

This was a truly excellent movie, a gangster flick drawing heavily from the blaxploitation genre. Fred Williamson plays Tommy Gibbs, a young tough who works his way from shoeshine/mob messenger boy to crime boss. He uses the Italian mob and the corrupt cop who beat him severely as a teenager to gain a foothold and then turns the tables on all of them. None of it seems to matter, though, as he still can't satisfy the women in his life, no matter what he can give them. As his world begins to crumble around Tommy, ... Read More:

What is the question that will forever be the Dolemite aficionado. A burning question guranteed to forever split both sides of the debate.[No, its not that serious] Just which Dolemite movies are better than the other. Is it Dolemite or the Human Tornado? For me it was the Dolemite over the Human Tornado. The Humando tornado starts off as a F5 but by the closing credits it whimpers into a FO. What hinders the film is both sluggish pace and lack of funny lines from Rudy Ray Moore. The films does have some interesting material[such ... Read More:

This documentary was produced in 1997, and very little new and meaningful information on Robert Johnson has surfaced since then, except for further details over his death. So, the important facts about his life are contained here. But this is more than a documentary --- the dramatizations are fabulous. It is a very relaxing film, and beautifully showcases Johnson's original recordings. Keb Mo does a fine job in recreating Johnson's recording sessions. It is visually beautiful, and takes you to the heart of the Delta. Johnny Shines, Johnson's ... Read More:

VHS : Civil War, Ken Burn's Episode 9: The Better Angels Of Our
This ninth installment of Ken Burns' Civil War documentary deals with the "clean-up" of the North/South conflict after the surrender at Appomattox courthouse, including focusing on these key areas:

-Information on what happened to key generals (Grant, Lee, McClellan, Hooker, etc.) of the war once the fighting ceased.

-The capture of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and how he took to his grave the idea that his Confederacy was the nobler cause of the battle.

-The sad truth that, although the Union technically freed ... Read More:

VHS : Rush Hour
Rush Hour is one of those movies I could watch over and over again and enjoy it each and every single time. The chemistry between Chan and Tucker is superb (Lethal Weapon-quality) and even though the plot is a bit trite, the overall movement and fun of the film keeps it going. An easy 5 stars for me.
