I saw this movie when I was a kid of course and now that I teach US History was hoping that it might work in place of the ever popular Saving Private Ryan. The movie is all about the background of the boys, how they grew up, the relationship they had as brothers, their fighting spirit and how they tried to make sure they stayed together in the military (in this case the Navy) during the war. I have to be honest, since I was looking at this film for use in my class I was hoping for more story of ... Read More:

I think that this movie was well done and would be good for children to see to help them to understand F&I and life on the frontier.I would like to see it released on DVD.

VHS : Buccaneer
About 1959, I would have been 8 years old, my great aunt Louise saw "The Buccaneer" and had a stroke. She had a stroke each time she saw it. She saw it 5 more times and died.

The term "Kentucky Long Rifle" did not exist prior to the battle of NO; {NO}; it was the "Pennsylvania Rifle" from 1739 to 1815.

LaFitte's part is overstated. The exact Brit battle plan was delivered to Jackson by two of George washington's former spies, Owen Thomas and William Thomas, sr.

VHS : Twister
Twister is one of my all-time favorite action movies and have watched it more times than I would like to admit. The best transfer on DVD still left alot to be desired. Now,the the transfer on Blu-Ray has been cleaned up and improved dramatically. It's not reference quality,of course, but I give the picture a solid 4 out of 5 for a movie of this age.I can't comment on the new lossless soundtrack because I am unable to decode yet.
Definitely highly recommended even if you have the latest DVD version.

VHS : Johnny Tremain
Johnny Tremain was a tiny Disney movie on early American History (or was it myth?). Yet it captured the minds and hearts of kids and adults of the time and helped spread some historic culture throughout the land.

Having said that, the modern perspective of things has changed all this and by today's standards it is at best a nice little adventure movie, but nothing more.

Many inaccuracies and liberties with historic fact have made it into what it is: a nice escapist movie.

The acting is ... Read More:

VHS : The Tanks Are Coming
Many of the tank scenes in this movie were filmed in Ft. Knox, Kentucky. My father was with the armored 6th Cavalry in General Patton's 3rd Army in WW2 and was stationed at Ft. Knox in 1951 when the movie was being made. My mother and I (I was 10 at the time) were extras in the role of war refugees/civilians. We were dressed in ragged clothes and cheered the tanks when they liberated our town/country. The scenes where the tank crews threw candy to the kids were my favorite ones. I remember seeing a great many tanks on site ... Read More:

I did not think they could suscessfully make a flim of this story without it being a shambles. I was very happy to learn I was wrong they did an outstanding job with special effects as well as the tale told in the movie by staying on task with what needed to be included and triming what could be taken out.

179.Death Wish starring: Charles Bronson, Hope Lange, Vincent Gardenia, Steven Keats, William Redfield

VHS : Death Wish
Charles Bronson plays the role of the original vigilante, Mr. Paul Kearsey. There are many films of the 70's that tried in vain to have depth, but the social commentary that Death Wish delivers in urban violence is very thought provoking. The movie delivers in thrills and drama while Mr. Kearsey attempts to settle a score against the scum of the streets. Viewing this film only makes me realize how mush I miss Charles Bronson and how wonderful of an actor he was.

VHS : Bond: Never Say Never Again
I wouldn't go out of my way for this if I wasn't a Bond completist, but NSNA seems to me to be a fair-to-middling Bond outing that compares favorably to its contemporary (1983) 'official' competition, OCTOPUSSY. Despite a low budget the film doesn't feel cheap, the recycled plot is one of the better ones, and Connery, although hamming it up a bit as a middle-aged superspy, is still everybody's favorite Bond.

If you're comparing this to the early Connery, or even the Pierce Brosnan period, forget it - done at the height (depth?) of the Roger ... Read More:
