Perhaps we need this mind-set of Peace
in today's society (without the dope smoking).
There has to be a better solution to keep this
Country safe (other than WAR)!

Some noncomplimentary reviews have been written here by people who, from what I conclude after reading their comments, did not actually serve in Vietnam. I did serve with the USMC around the DaNang area in 1969-70. After seeing most of the Vietnam war movies, I feel that this movie is the most realistic of how it really was over there. Why is there still no DVD of this movie?

Why isn't this series on DVD? Watched this quality drama as a Brit. studying abroad and it made me research Vietnam for my doctorate!

Alright, let me start off by saying that, although this dossier has a huge amount of lost footage, features, and pretty much everything but the kitchen seat, it is FAR from "complete". There was an exclusive 3-Disc version sold at Target which has seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth. I find it ironic they call the more common two-disc dossier the essential version, when it doesn't even have the trailers or the "Compound Explosion" scene, regardless of the fact that it has everything else. There's also ... Read More:

In "The Things They Carried", Tim O'Brien combines images from his personal experiences with thoughtful storytelling in order to capture the reader's imagination and take them into a world which they may never otherwise see. A world created out of the chaos and confusion that exists as a result of war and internal emotional conflicts. He calls it a work of fiction.
As a war veteran I can appreciate the struggle of how challenging it is to tell a true war story. To bring back its character and relive it. Not merely ... Read More:

I caught this film many years ago on cable. I could've been around ten the first time that'd seen it or around that age. The begining of the film was really disturbing to me, but that really didn't stop in one place it kept happening throughout the film. It builds so well. The performances, to me are flawless, especially from the two leads, Wings Hauser and R. Lee Ermey. I caught this movie on an encore channel that was called 'True', for true drama and i don't think it's around anymore. This film is amazing and it's an incredible ... Read More:

I give this uber low-budget Vietnam movie a salute for showing the Enemy side of the conflict through an objective lens. I've watched alot of Vietnam movies, most of which suffer from low-budget historical inaccuracies in weapons, uniforms, vehicles: mainly because its no longer possible to acquire all US-Vietnam era gear from renting third world armories, like in the Philipines. This movie has those flaws but most war movies w/out big budgets from the 80's did, so bear that in mind.

The intro shows the main character, ... Read More:

This film is very close to the nerve centers of practically all Marines because it so very realistically depicts their experiences in either boot camp and/or Vietnam. There isn't one that didn't feel a mysterious tingle in the back of his neck and a shiver down his spine when he first heard Lee Ermy calling cadence in the boot camp segment of the movie. Nuf said about the film except to say that the video and audio transfer to blu-ray is outstanding. The anamorphic treatment that allows it to fit 16X9 TVs is excellent. Makes it seem even ... Wayne avoided military service during World War Two, and it shows in the movie. For example, Wayne repeatedly uses his rifle to gesture toward someone, a flagrant mistake that a recruit with one week of training would not make. Appropriately, at the movie's end the sun sinks in the east as Wayne and a Vietnamese child gaze out to sea. The movie's grasp of the war in Vietnam is as confused as its grasp of geography.
