VHS : King of Hearts
"October 1918" is the date for this story. German soldiers are planting explosives to destroy the advancing British soldiers when they occupy a French city. The townspeople hurriedly evacuate the town. The British are warned, they will not march into town. Instead Private Plumpick [some pun?] will be sent in to scout the town and defuse the bombs - by himself! [Believable?] Discovered by the Germans, he flees into a building for refuge and safety; it is the local insane asylum. The result of the ... Read More:

VHS : The African Queen
What a work of art! This is one of the best movies of all time. When the spinster missionary woman (Hepburn) must TOLERATE Mr. Arnaut (Bogart)
in their life-threatening trip down the river in a beat-up old boat, The African Queen, the fun begins. She can drum up no respect for this man--until she realizes that he is an intelligent person who may be able to save their lives by his cool wit. He good naturedly sloughs off her constant criticism, while she endures his slovenly ways and colorful ... Read More:

VHS : Sergeant York
This is without a doubt one of the top five movies of all time. The acting is superb and the movie keeps you interested through out. Gary Cooper is brilliant, but the actress who plays Mother York, Margaret Wycherly, steals the show. I have seen this movie several times in my lifetime and I become deeply engrossed everytime I watch it. This is one of the best bargains ($10.99) you will ever find for a DVD. The second DVD, Sergeant York: An American Hero is also outstanding as well. This is definitely a must see movie. ... Read More:

6.Wings starring: Richard Arlen, Clara Bow, El Brendel, Thomas Carrigan, Margery Chapin

VHS : Wings
A film that hits just about every human emotion in the repertoire and
does so surprisingly well, although there is some overeagerness amongst the callow youth. The biggest surprise of all, however, is just how
enchanting Clara Bow is as the very sexy girl next door. While obviously men's tastes in women differ, it is still rather difficult to believe that Charles Rogers wasn't at least infatuated with his next door neighbor. Clara's personality is just as attractive as her looks. Watching
her is by far the ... Read More:

VHS : Waterloo Bridge
This remake of the 1931 filmed version of Robert Sherwood's play about the doomed romance of a WWI military officer and a streetwalker, is a classic tragic romance that sanitizes the original, but is distinguished by lovely performances and exquisite black and white cinematography. It is really a pitch perfect tearjerker for the period.

Vivien Leigh is heartbreaking as ballerina turned prostitute Myra, and if possible, even more beautiful than she was in Gone With The Wind. Her acting here is a far cry from the exuberance, ... Read More:

Great war film I just watched on this silent classics VHS, which at the moment is the only place its available. There's nothing wrong with this release at all, in fact it has a score by the wonderful Carl Davis, the highest sought-after silent film composer. Nice picture, and a great film.

VHS : Great Waldo Pepper
In regards to "The Great Waldo Pepper" I agree with most of the DVD/vhs viewers: Lets re-release it widescreen!
I just watched it on a DVD I tranferred from VHS three years ago! The original VHS was recorded from the Disney Channel back in December of '05.
I did notice on the end credits it was filmed in Todd-AO. This means it was done in a widescreen Cinemascope process. The only difference here is that Todd-AO is filmed at 30 frames per second - so it would be easier to transfer to DVD and a higher quality as well. Maybe Universal is waiting to ... Read More:
