VHS : Farewell My Lovely
Robert Mitchum, Sylvia Miles, Charlotte Rampling, Harry Dean Stanton, Jack O'Halloran, John Ireland and Sylvester Stallone, among others - what a lineup. Of the entire genre of film noir, tough guy detective films, this one is by far the best. Mitchum is at his all time best, even though he's nearly sixty in this film (a bit old to play Marlowe, in my opinion, but he carries it off with absolute aplomb). He is the quintessential tough guy gumshoe Marlowe (he floors Dick Powell's previous characterization ... Read More:

I love this movie, the music, the sounds of the voices, the one liners,
the story. I don't normally watch movies over but I have watched this over and over, the story is amazing. 1981 when I first fell in love with
William Hurt.

I remember the first time I saw LA Confidential in the theater. It was at a matinee. Usually, martinee crowds are noisy, but you could hear a pin drop except for two moments in the film when everyone gasped in shock. I have watched it on videotape and DVD, and each time it's like watching it for the first time. It is truly an ensemble piece with not one performance out of place. And it is one of the tightest bit of direction and writing I have ever seen because if you blink you miss important details. The acting, directing, writing, ... Read More:

There's a dialect coach listed in the credits, and her license should be yanked. And burned. Those accents are the worst I've ever heard in any number of crappy movies set in New Orleans. To be fair, maybe the plot was worthwhile, or maybe the performances got better as things developed. But we couldn't listen to it for more than 10 minutes.

5.Angel Heart (Unrated) starring: Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro, Lisa Bonet, Charlotte Rampling, Stocker Fontelieu

VHS : Angel Heart (Unrated)
Based on a great novel by William Hjortsberg (Fallen angel).
Great actors.
Great director.
One of the best crime films (with a touch of occultism) I've seen.

VHS : Memento (2000)
Definitely strange, interesting and fun!!! Very unique idea for a film!!!

This movie is for the "COMPLEX THINKER" or the "DYSLEXIC MIND" ...few can put this movie together in less than 2 or 3 viewings. This film literally runs forward from the end of the movie yet backwards at the same time; adding supposed real-time moments where the main character is on the phone or reminiscing about things he remembers before his assault.

Strangely enough, I got this movie the first time viewing it!! Hm?

To fully get ... Read More:

I don't know, I don't think it merits more than three stars, in spite of one terrific cast. The plot is not that original and the ending is terribly unsatisfying, even if it is perhaps more true to life. Ed Harris looks great here, but the one to watch is his partner, Benicio Del Toro, who was Rosie Perez' husband in "Fearless". This was filmed before "Blink" which also starred Stowe. Was set in Florida and the house they used - the outside - was georgeous, with one of those wrap-around porches. I kept wondering throughout why they made such ... Read More:

VHS : Payback (1994, Unrated/Special Director's Cut, SP)
The other reviews of this movie are way too kind. There is very little "steam" in this movie. Not a bad plot, but let's be honest, that's not why we watch these direct to video / cinemax softcore movies. Joan Severance does look good as usual. However, the erotica scenes are few and far between and there is virtually nothing more revealing in the unrated version so don't spend your $ here. Joan looks at her best putting on shiny white thigh highs underneath a tight yellow dress, but nothing happens with her and this luscious outfit. A complete waste. ... Read More:

VHS : The Bride Wore Black
Which "Hitchcock" inspired this? Some of Alfred's camera work, perhaps, the sort that has become a cliche in serial killer flicks. This script, however, has far less subtlety than "Seven" and few surprises. Moreau is always appealing in some way, but she is so businesslike in this role that the apparent fascination that her victims show for her is not credible even as comic parody of predatory men. Two of the revenge killings had promising storylines. One of these worked well. In the second she was an artist's model in a character that parodied the men, but the parody wasn't ... Read More:
