| For the most part, this is a good film: well-written, well-photographed, well-directed and well-acted. But for me, Gene Tierney simply does not have the beauty or strength or charisma that the part of Laura seems to call for. She's certainly pretty, but not beautiful or striking. She's competent, but I wouldn't call her brilliant. I'm told that she is all these things but I really can't see it for myself. | I've been re-watching my own wobbly videotape of this two-parter for years. It occured to me to check Amazon...and here it is! Oddly though, I find the names of the three female stars listed to promote the movie but no mention of Daniel Craig. Would-be buyers might be interested in seeing 007 before his was a big name on the marquee. |

| I have been waiting for years for this movie to make it to dvd.To say that this movie is quirky is an understatement.
It follows a detective played beautifully by Dennis Hopper as he tries to solve a murder. What is unusual is that the average Joe uses magic as part of his daily routine,i.e.want to take out your trash,simply think it and its done or want to be beautiful have someone cast a spell and its done. | Robert Mitchum, Sylvia Miles, Charlotte Rampling, Harry Dean Stanton, Jack O'Halloran, John Ireland and Sylvester Stallone,among others - what a lineup. Of the entire genre of film noir, tough guy detective films, this one is by far the best. | What were they thinking? Perhaps director Garry Marshall thought he could do for S&M what he'd done for the women of the evening in Pretty Woman. Wrap up an edgy topic in a big cute bow, and through humor make it palatable, even entertaining, to the masses. But you thought wrong Mr. Marshall. Actually, it is a surprisingly entertaining movie, it is just that most of the humor is unintentional. You can't believe the movie got green lighted when it was so obviously doomed to be a disaster.

| Dorothy L. Sayers writes many non-fiction books however among her best is the Lord Peter Wimsey series. I came to this series sort of though the back door. My first taste was the BBC productions with Petherbridge as Lord Peter that can now be found on DVD ASIN: B000062XDX. So I read all of Dorothy's books containing the relationship of Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. Now it is time to go through the whole series.
