VHS : Malcolm X (2pc)
I could easily have given this movie five stars on the acting alone. But I had to take out one star for a few inaccuracies in the movie plus the movie left out certain elements in his life that I felt were important(like his speech to the Africans in Africa that the blacks in America had the same struggle that they had) but dont mistake my tone because I still recommend it flaws and all.

Malcolm X details the life of the controversial yet charismatic figure that sought to deal with the injustices ... Read More:

VHS : What's Love Got To Do With It?
After selection, the movie was mailed to me in exactly the time frame adverstised. Knowing it was previously viewed I was pleasantly surprised to find the DVD in perfect order and played beautiful. I recently saw Tina live in Houston. I wanted to see the movie again as it is a powerful tribute of where she was, how she got started, and how she was started again. I loved the heartfelt pain and triumped with her as she returned solo and became one of the greatest women of all time.

VHS : Daughters of the Dust
Calling daughters of the dust an unusual film is somewhat of an understatement. the film doesn't follow most Hollywood film conventions. That being said i think daughters of the dust is a good film, worth watching for, if nothing else, its originality. it shows the life of a family living on the Gullah islands, days before they plan on moving to mainland America.

The film is quite simple with most of the time spent showing the character's relationships and interactions with each other. The actors in the ... Read More:

... despite the mitigation of a Hollywood love story and a fictitious super-hero, but still not as painful as the TRUTH, the true and well-documented story of an ethnic cleansing in Florida in 1923, when, over several days, European-American mobs attacked the peaceful and prosperous African-American village of Rosewood, in Levy County. During the attack, survivors estimated, as many as eighteen African-Americans and two European-Americans were. Most of the buildings, including churches and a school, were burned. The community ... As much as I don't like the idea of robbing banks, I love romantic films. I especially love the scenes with Blair Underwood and Jada Pinkett because they are very beautiful scenes. They are also very beautiful people. When I watch this film, I always rewind these parts. They are very compatible. As a female of African descent, the aforementioned relationship helps me visualize the possibility of meeting an extraordinary prince of African descent one day =). Ebony romance is truly awesome. But back to the film, all the actors and actresses ... Read More:

Welcome to Columbus University. Where students are divided among racial lines. Where security regularly harasses black students. Where neo-nazis and the black panthers go to recruit new members. Where interracial and homosexual couples have to fear being attacked. Where campus shootings are bound to happen.

A movie about reace relations in college was a great idea and there are good performances from the leads in the film. The movie made some great points about students needing to appreciate the opportunities college brings ... Read More:

VHS : Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored
This movie was very well done. From the casting of the primary actor (a handsome young boy who is groomed at his wise old grandfather's knee) to his family-loyal aunt (the already accomplished actress Phylicia Rashad), this movie invites you into a world that any modern black American would be desperate to escape. The movie starts in the harsh, back-breaking times of old (post-slavery, sweat and dust-coated, and mentally as well as physically oppressive). As one of a million people who watched Alex Haley's Roots as a child, I felt that same frustration, ... Read More:
