| This is the strangest educational video that I have ever seen. The creators use a character called Idaho Jones that is "modeled" on the screen adventurer Indiana Jones. It starts with a scene similar to the opening one of "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Idaho is with a woman in a cave and has discovered a golden X. | This DVD provides both parts I and II of the Standard Deviants' French series. I teach high school French, and my students find the videos engaging, entertaining, and informative. By its nature, this DVD cannot offer the depth necessary to supplant any real teaching (which isn't their purpose anyway); however, it does help remind students of some grammatical and lexical basics they learn in French I. | I used this video and the accompanying workbook to prepare for the CLEP "Introduction to Psychology" exam, and I found it to be a valuable preparation tool. While the tape doesn't cover every single concept covered in the CLEP exam, it does cover most of the important concepts covered in an introductory pychology course. While the presenters in the video probably shouldn't try for careers as stand-up comics, the humorous asides included in the video make it much less dry than the typical "talking heads" presentation. ... | Admittedly, this is not the most entertaining movie out there, but if you're watching a DVD called "Learn Biology", entertainment is not primarily what you're after, right?
I watched this movie as the base of my studying to pass a Biology placement test for my return to college. I was not looking for entertainment...I was looking for a video that would CRAM a semester's worth of general biology into my head in two weeks. And that it did! | I thought that this was a well organized, presented program. The speed is perfect, and the humor breaks up the program. I actually think that they are funny. Definitely the most creative approach to teaching i've encountered. |
