VHS : The Perfect Weapon
I'm 100% with all of you who say it should be released on DVD!!! I am rating this only one star not because it is a bad movie - the movie is excellent. It's because this item is VHS and it's a dead format. I haven't had a VHS player for years and have no intention of getting another one...

I saw this movie several years ago and have wanted to get it on DVD for years; which is why I found myself on this page. I want it and can't understand what reasoning the studio might have for releasing ... Read More:

VHS : Stalin (1992)
A true characterization of a truly pathetic individual. Historically, Stalin & Hitler were no more than two lost souls, losers in every way, that found a home in subjective, reactive rhetorical organizations.

Stalin used his power to turn his delusions into reality, and untold
horrors for the Russian people. This movie accurately portrays the
beast and his place in history.

VHS : The World At War - 9 Volume Gift Set
When I was a kid I was taken by the tales of courage and bravery that the movies and books feed people. I read about the fighter pilots and the Commandos. War was all excitement and friends looking out for friends.

Then one day the theme music of The World at War came on, the program launched straight in to archive footage of real battles, all the horror of mangled and mutilated bodies. I was mesmerized and that was the end of my warm and fluffy view of warfare. You only need to see a little bit of the real ... Read More:

Buyer beware! The newer DVD set of this FABULOUS series is not up to the quality of this VHS edition. The DVDs are made by the History channel, and the sound quality is awful. This older VHS version, produced by New Line features (although on tape) has a much finer sound quality and even the video isn't that bad, compared to the lousey transfer of the DVDs.
These are still the finest chronicles of war footage AND narration that have been made of WWll, in my opinion. Try to get thru them without tearing up at the human ... Read More:

VHS : Survivors of the Holocaust
This sad but powerful video is a must-have for any English or History teacher dealing with the Holocaust. I *do* agree with many Holocaust survivors who urge teachers to NOT begin their units with such a film, but to use it as a tool that complements a balanced discussion of this horrific time period. I begin my unit with a study of poems from the book, "I Never Saw Another Butterfly," recommended by another teacher, and then proceed to this video. Finally, we read the book, "Night," by Elie Wiesel. I feel all the first-hand ... Read More:

VHS : The Civil War - A Film by Ken Burns (Boxed Set)
Ken Burns' epic documentary about the Civil War is perhaps the greatest and most all-encompassing history lesson of the North/South conflict that has ever been put on film or page. Not only is every important detail of the war covered (and in such a way that the details are interesting and important, not boring), but two entire episodes are devoted to the build-up and aftermath of the conflict. Essentially, if you were teaching a class on the Civil War, this video is all you would need, as it both conveys the vital information of the ... Read More:

VHS : In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great
There are no reenactments by second-rate actors; neither are there detailed examinations of ruins, nor are there dry recitations of historical facts from graying academicians. This is a four-hour journey through 20,000 miles in the company of an entertaining, charming, knowledgeable guide, Michael Wood - some of it on foot as Alexander, himself, would have pressed ahead to his destiny into the rumored, legendary, imagined and unknown. What is the legacy of the greatest of all conquerors? What evidence remains on the lands and their peoples today ... Read More:

I saw this movie when I was a kid of course and now that I teach US History was hoping that it might work in place of the ever popular Saving Private Ryan. The movie is all about the background of the boys, how they grew up, the relationship they had as brothers, their fighting spirit and how they tried to make sure they stayed together in the military (in this case the Navy) during the war. I have to be honest, since I was looking at this film for use in my class I was hoping for more story of them on the ship but that part takes all of about 10 minutes. ... Read More:

VHS : Napoleon
Upon seeing the restored and re-released film in 1981, I placed this silent at the top of my list of favorite foreign films from the silent era. The use of triptych, color, and daring camera angles is breathtaking! Gance was one of film's innovative pioneering geniuses. Although at times the acting is a bit stilted, the viewer must remember that these actors are turn-of-the-century schooled; today's acting style is far different and more relaxed. The electricity sparks between Napoleon and Josephine. Finally, Coppola's score is unforgettable, haunting, and touching. ... Read More:
