I love this documentary. I play it whenever I need a laugh. It is short -- the cinematography is terrible, but the editing is brilliant. The participants are hilarious and their stories are universally touching. This is one for the Smithsonian.

Another reviewer called this film "tense" and "visceral." I agree only with one of those adjectives -- visceral. The movie just doesn't move fast enough to keep the typical viewer's attention. Overall, good movie to see to remind yourself of the world that was, and still is, but it won't keep you on the edge of your seat.

VHS : Anne Frank: The Missing Chapter (Based on the book "Anne Frank - The Biography" by Melissa Muller)
This documentary tries to shed light on the world's most famous diary, mainly by looking at five portions that were not published when the Diary of Anne Frank was first published. Director David Hammelburg uses interviews with friends of the Frank family as well as scholars and other authors (including Anne's biographer Melissa Muller) not only to consider why these pages were suppressed in the first place, but to try and fill in some of the gaps in the story of Anne Frank. Unfortunately, the documentary gets a bit ... Read More:

VHS : The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg
I've seen this promoted many times as a movie for Jewish people because it is about their first big baseball idol, Hank Greenberg. A lot of the material here deals with how big an idol Hank was to all the Jews in Amercia back then. I found that interesting, but I watched it simply because I love baseball, especially the "old days" and am thrilled to see footage of any Major League baseball games and stars from the first half of the 20th century. If there is a human-interest behind the diamond heroics, all the better! ... Read More:

This is a terrific film and documentary of klezmer music - past and present. It features many clips from bands such as the Klezmer Conservatory Band of Boston, of which I was a member at the time of the filming of this video. Great for information and clips from Yiddish theater as well - includes a clip with Garrison Keillor. It will get you dancing - and give you an appreciation of the roots of this music.
