VHS : Zoboomafoo - Sense-Sational Animal Friends
Zoboomafoo is entertaining, funny, and packed with information about animals. The Kratt brothers combine just the right amount of silly antics with real educational material and close-up encounters with all kinds of animals. See also my review of Zoboomafoo - Look Who's Home. This is quality educational programming that won't drive Mom or Dad crazy -- highly recommended.

VHS : Walt Disney's True Life Adventures - The Living Desert
As a youth, I remember watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" (which, if I'm not mistaken, was later renamed "The Wonderful World of Color"). It was on every Sunday night and would feature cartoons, a serial program like "Davie Crocket: King of the Wild Frontier", or any variety of other Disney-worthy productions including a number of nature programs. I believe it was on that TV show that I first saw "The Living Desert". It won an Academy Award for Best Feature-Length Documentary in 1953. ... Read More:

my 15 month old son is absolutely entranced with the show and with this video. He brings it to me and asks for it without words as often as he can find the case--and I enjoy it too! It's enjoyable, doesn't talk down and is very informative! A family favorite!

I have bought/studies different methods of Natural horsemanship, from Clinton Anderson, Parelli, John Lyons.... I really liked his simplicity and getting to the most important aspect of enjoying our horses and loving them. I have 3 colts and have done all the exersises to a point where they are programed but lost the real communication that you have when your a kid and are not embarressed to show your feelings and connect as if you were a horse communicating. I grew up around horses as a kid and as an adult ... Read More:

VHS : National Geograhic Video - The Noble Horse
My 6-year old has been enjoying this video for about a year. There are some parts that are a bit strong - in terms of content (like the parts dealing with horse slaughter and the death of some of the Mongolian horses) - but she gets through it.

There is a similar Nature series video, starring Julia Roberts, that explores the history of the Mongolian horse.

Both are great for the horse lover.

Jewels of the Caribbean is by far the best documentary I have seen on marine life. I am a marine biologist and have seen probably every show out there. The footage, narrations, music, etc. on this video are wonderful. The shot of the ray swimming in circles in front of the camera's light is amazing. I have watched this movie dozens of times and never get tired of watching it. I teach marine biology and make a point if having my students watch this video (and they don't even fall asleep!). I highly recommend this video ... Read More:

It covers many tornadoes from recent history, from Pampa to Jarrel, Texas. Incredible footage of twisters from all over the world fill this tape. If you have even the slightest interest in weather, you will definitely want to check this one out.
