VHS : Psycho (1960)

Early in this movie the viewer is told that a boy's best friend is his mother. Is this true??

This movie is a suspense/horror/the first psychoanalytic thriller directed by the "master of suspense" himself, Alfred Hitchcock. It is based on the novel "Psycho" by Robert Bloch, which in turn was inspired by the crimes of Wisconsin murderer Ed Gein.

Briefly, this film depicts the encounter between secretary Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) who is hiding in a ... Read More:

VHS : Jack's Back
This little viewed film of the 1980's put James Spader on the map. What a performance! Spader, along with the always reliable Robert Picardo and a surprisely effective Cynthia Gibbs navigate this up-to-date version of the Jack the Ripper Tale. A really creepy film. Enjoy!

I'm not sure why anyone would pick this one up and pop it in the DVD player when they can just pop the original one in instead. The original is a great classic that will forever sit on top ten lists everywhere as the most chilling work of art ever created for the silver screen. This one is only tepid in comparison, and that's where the interest lies if anything, and that's too watch an update scene for scene, shot for shot movie, minus the suspense and minus the dread. This one is just "blah". Julianne Moore and William ... Read More:

VHS : Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2
Basically this is a predictable follow-up to the fantastic 1984 Christmas slashfest 'Silent Night Deadly Night' which, naturally, passes the torch to Billy's younger brother, Ricky. Featuring a fantastic moody score (including a haunting, atonal theme) the film is entertaining but ends up spending about half the runtime in flashback of mostly scenes from the first flick as Ricky explains how he turned homicidal like his brother. The nasty Mother Superior returns once again near the end of the flick. If you liked the original, definitely see ... Read More:

VHS : Sweeney Todd
Angela is fantastic as always. She made me laugh will her portrayal of Mrs. Lovett. The costumes are very nice. The set is the pits with one piece that men come out and turn 90 or 180 degrees for different scenes. There is a very annoying air horn they blow every 15 minutes, I guess to wake up the audience. The cast do their best with the material. However, as Stephen Sondheim always does, the songs go from beautiful to God-awful. What is the point of a "song" with NO melody and people singing lyrics very quickly and over each other so you can't ... Read More:

VHS : Hellraiser 3 (Unrated)
HELLRAISER III has a lot of spunk. I'll give it that. Flush from the successes of the first two (far superior) films, HELL ON EARTH gets points for not just going through the motions.

But it doesn't get points for anything else.

This movie really should've been called THE RETURN OF PINHEAD, or PINHEAD BE PIMPIN'. Not only is the rogue Cenobite the central focus for most of the film, but he has been made slightly snarkier. Well, he's always been somewhat snarky (he usually gets the film's best lines), but for the first time ... Read More:

I have just completed my second time around with this movie. It took me a year to watch it again, with some friends from the original showing, and some new faces. It was worse than I remember, and the second worse movie I have ever encountered, and I find them for fun. Every other SNDN movie (which I own the collection) has some entertaining value, most of which is just the outrageous badness of them all, but this movie is on another level of its own. Tonight I took my copy and threw it out a second floor window and burned the remains. Stay far away from this movie ... Read More:

i got this movie becasue of the high praise it got on amazon.some of it was well deserved, like the praise for tom savini's sfx.but the story of the movie was kind of boring at times when hes not killing anyone.i eman its an ok movie that any horror fan should watch at least once, rent maybe unless you LOVE gore and blood then i say you should buy it.there are plenty of special features on the disc which is good and its directed by wiwlliam lustig(maniac cop, uncle sam)so if your a fan of his run and get this movie.aside from the few laggin story parts the movie was good and ...
