| For the most part, this is a good film: well-written, well-photographed, well-directed and well-acted. But for me, Gene Tierney simply does not have the beauty or strength or charisma that the part of Laura seems to call for. She's certainly pretty, but not beautiful or striking. She's competent, but I wouldn't call her brilliant. I'm told that she is all these things but I really can't see it for myself. | An old movie but a great movie. Many appearances are not what they seem. I searched for this movie for years & am happy to finally have it in my library. If you like old movies & these actors then you must see this movie. |

| Rebecca (1940) is the only film directed by Alfred Hitchcock that won an Oscar as best picture and it is also his first american film. It certainly has many of Hitch's trademarks (the opening sequence for example)but imho it is an overrated film, the performances are dull with the exceptcion of Judith Anderson`s role and the script is weak. Suspicion , Notorius , Strangers on a Train are by far better films in which the Master of Suspense displays all his genius. Sincerely I expected a more interesting film. |

| I've been re-watching my own wobbly videotape of this two-parter for years. It occured to me to check Amazon...and here it is! Oddly though, I find the names of the three female stars listed to promote the movie but no mention of Daniel Craig. Would-be buyers might be interested in seeing 007 before his was a big name on the marquee. |

| I was allowed into the theater to see this when I was 14, almost 15, and the lady at the ticket booth said, "Hmmmm....OK." My friend was just over 16, I think, so he might have been underage as well. Anyway, I recommend this movie for anyone who likes 1960's period pieces. Love the music, the sunny innocence mixed with naughty naughtiness, the tongue-in-cheek performances, the high school upskirts, Angie Dickinson. Just another movie that makes you wonder why it has not seen the digital light of day yet. |

For the film, Hitchcock chose to cast his favorite leading lady of the time, Grace Kelly, as the embattled Margot Wendice. | There are erotic thrillers that succeed in their genre (e.g. Basic Instinct, Jade), but this one felt awkward and contrived. I think its producers were trying to ride on the coat tails of the immensely popular Basic Instinct by attracting some of that audience. I know that's why I and friends went to see it in theatres. But we were disappointed, both in the story and the acting. | Dorothy L. Sayers writes many non-fiction books however among her best is the Lord Peter Wimsey series. I came to this series sort of though the back door. My first taste was the BBC productions with Petherbridge as Lord Peter that can now be found on DVD ASIN: B000062XDX. So I read all of Dorothy's books containing the relationship of Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. Now it is time to go through the whole series.
