| Yes, the movie was done on a shoestring budget, and some of the acting is very average. But there are a few things people miss. There is about three minutes total of nongun violence. This is NOT a kick-fest.
The townies vs the commune people conflict is a bit simple, but things like this really do happen, especially in small towns. Heck, look at the civil rights demonstrations in the 50's and 60's if you want to see real examples of "good folk" who will kill and bully people who ... Read More: |

| I've always been a big fan of this movie and was looking forward to adding the 30th anniversary edition to my DVD collection. Unfortunately, the movie arrived with the DVD off its hub and rattling around freely inside the case, resulting in catastrophic damage to the disc. I attempted to watch it anyway, but, not surprisingly, the disc was too badly damaged to be salvaged.

| You can watch this movie on fast forward and not miss anything. This movie is WAY over-rated... It might have been great to some people in its day - but that is now almost 40 years ago. Anyone who hasn't seen it, dont waste your time. The longer time passes the worse this movie will get. I watched it because it was a "famous" movie but as many of the older famous movies are, they just are on a completely lower level than todays great movies. |

| When I first saw this film years ago, it seemed to me to have a cheap and easy ending, and I thought the whole thing was designed more to titillate than aim for something deeper. Now I've watched it a few times over, and I think it is trying for something. Love elevates the animal into humanity. An old story, but it is hard to argue with this version. | Just watched this for the first time on TCM Underground and I enjoyed it.I've heard about it before,but have never seen it,since they never show it on tv.TCM Underground showed this again for the second time,so I recorded it and watched it this morning.All I can say is that it's alot of fun.Sure the acting isn't along the line of a Streep or Bette Davis,but who cares???
