| Yes, the movie was done on a shoestring budget, and some of the acting is very average. But there are a few things people miss. There is about three minutes total of nongun violence. This is NOT a kick-fest.
The townies vs the commune people conflict is a bit simple, but things like this really do happen, especially in small towns. Heck, look at the civil rights demonstrations in the 50's and 60's if you want to see real examples of "good folk" who will kill and bully people ... Read More: |

| I can't believe I've watched this movie from time to time for 30 years now and it's STILL timelessly funny. The 1970's stand-up duo who sold thousands of comedy albums hit paydirt with their first movie, Up In Smoke. Followed by five sequels, this first film is considered by most to be their absolute best. | This is such a great movie. It has the look of Batman and Batman Returns, and has the feel of all the gothic literature/films that have been seen. Brandon Lee's (sadly) final performance is a treat: he is the one and only "Eric Draven", and all the others are just copycats of him. Pacing and direction of this film is compelling, while the wicked art direction stands out. Action sequences are a must-see, and the script is purely well-written. ***** out of *****. |

| If you were a teen(male)during the 80's then this is a film for you. Trashy dialogue, corny story line and fantastic girly fight scenes.
I'll never forget the line "My Name's Crazy Honey"......... Get this film now and enjoy it. |

| You can watch this movie on fast forward and not miss anything. This movie is WAY over-rated... It might have been great to some people in its day - but that is now almost 40 years ago. Anyone who hasn't seen it, dont waste your time. The longer time passes the worse this movie will get. I watched it because it was a "famous" movie but as many of the older famous movies are, they just are on a completely lower level than todays great movies. |

| This is a terrible movie. It's supposed to be some kind of semi-sequel to Death Race 2000, but it lacks all of the satire and comedy of its predecessor. It's Boring, plain and cheap. Sure, Roger Corman, the B-movie king, was known for being cheap, but this is awful. Roger Corman was also known for seeking out new directors with talent (he gave Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Penelope Spheeris their first breaks), but Henry Suso, or whoever the director was has no talent. | I suppose I'm lucky I hadn't read this in book form prior to seeing it on HBO in the 70's. My daughter and I must have watched it 10 times. It is crazy-fun, whacky, so silly and charming, yet dark - Clockwork Orangeish mixed with Dr. Strangelove but not. Michael Moorcock is one of my favorite sci fi authors and this film (though I gather he hates) really captures how funny he is in the most unexpected of ways. If you love the odd, get it. |
