this is the best in the three part series. it follows the book almost to a "T" and the acting is splendid. if you have children who are yet too young to read, this is a great way to share the ANNE OF GREEN GABLES experience with them.

VHS : Treasure Island (1990)
This is indeed the very best film version of Robert Louis Stevenson's definitive pirate adventure ever made. Christian Bale plays the young Jim Hawkins and Charlton Heston is Long John Silver, and both are excellent. Add Christopher Lee as Blind Pew and the rest of a terrific cast including Oliver Reed, Clive Wood, and Julian Glover among the many actors that bring the story to life. Filmed on location in Jamaica and on the awesome ship Hispaniola, the scenery and cinematography are marvelous. ... Read More:

VHS : Romeo & Juliet (1968)
Zefferelli has brought this classic love story by Shakespeare to the screen. He makes it so simple, the language, and highlights this with an exeptional cast. With Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, both young newcomers at the time, in the leads, you become entranced with their love story and conflicts. This is Shakepseare at it's best. Although Henry V, Othello and Hamlet were all good films, this one is breathtaking to watch. Zefferelli followed this with Burton and Taylor in The Taming of the Shrew, also ... Read More:

Tango Lesson
Is only for tangueros - it illustrates a one woman obsession
with the dance. Hence it's quite limited and you must
be very interested in Tango/Milonga to get anything from it.

VHS : Surviving Picasso
I have looked for this movie for years to come on DVD...but alas it hasn't happened yet. This movie, which is based on a book, truly shows what it was like to have to live (or 'survive' as you will) with someone who is egocentric and artistic. I don't understand why people wanted this movie to explain Picasso as a person...the title tell you its about someone who SURVIVED Picasso. This man didn't want to be understood. He didn't care about that so appreciate this movie for what it is, a great example of how someone can almost be 'swallowed' ... Read More:

VHS : Inner Circle
This movie is to me Andrei Konchalovsky at his very best.

One of the darkest periods of the Russian history told through the eyes of the innocent Ivan Sanshin. Communist Joseph Stalin purportedly killed millions of fellow Russians through famines, executions, deportations, and in the Gulag, most of them for political reasons. No opposition was allowed whatsoever, and Russia experienced the horrors of a blood-thirsty despotic regime with an asphyxiating cult to the "leaders'" persona.

As we see Ivan Sanshin's story develop in the ... Read More:

VHS : Literary Masterpieces: The Count of Monte Cristo
I saw this when it was first shown on US television in about 1975 and was amazed by the storyline and the acting. I had seen Chamberlain in his TV series, but this film allowed him a vast range of emotions and exercises which the Tv show did not. I had not read the novel then, of course.

Relatively, this is the video version people should watch. I videotaped it a couple of times (once the result was not so great) and watch it sporadically since. The book I read in 1989 on a commuter train between Sunnyvale and San Carlos - commuter trains are great for ... Read More:

VHS : Ivanhoe (1982)
For one whom has read the book, the movie captures the essence of the story - chivalry, romance, prejudice, and action. The actors in the movie did an excellent job. The character Ivanhoe was well portrayed and the relationship between Rebecca and Ivanhoe was well developed and believable. The movie addressed all the key activities within the book and succeeded in presenting the story without the audience feeling like the story was being rush.

The down side is that the movie may only be available in a VHS version. VHS does have a tendency to age and ... Read More:
