Well, it must be a good movie, since I never forgot what I have seen when I was 11. This movie was one of the first we got to watch in Bavaria, after the war. I am a little older now, but would like to see it again, mayby in the original, why not? Johannes.

VHS : Little Big Man
Dustin Hoffman is great in this classic Western. It's one of the best Westerns out there. Hoffman plays a cavalry man who ends up living among the Native Americans. It's a bitter story of how poorly and unjustly were these people treated. Unfortunately, they're not faring much better today and the government does not treat them better either. There are some truths in this movie that we're still not willing to face and come to grips with today. This should be a required material for school kids and grown ... Read More:

Wesley Ruggles is probably best known for directing CIMARRON, the 1931 western that won that year's Best Picture Oscar.

This 1940 release has much in common with the earlier movie. Both films are epic in their scope and deal with the building of an American empire. Both pictures are somewhat ... Read More:

In a recent interview on the "Director's" series on TV, Lawrence
Kasdan noted that Kevin Costner was already well into production on
this "series", when he asked Kasdan to come on as Director. Costner
was preparing a mini-series for HBO of "Earp", and, when that fell
through he needed help in reshaping it as a movie. Kasdan did what
he could, but it was too late to do very much in the way of cutting
the series down. Other: I love this film, and I love the fact that
Earp never took a bullet, ... Read More:

VHS : The Alamo
I love this film. It's entertaining as it can be but historically it is way off the mark. The lyrics of one of song goes as follows: "...let the legend grow and grow....'bout those thirteen days of glory at the siege of Alamo..." I think this demonstrates Wayne's philosophy..."let the LEGEND grow and grow..." He had no problem with bending the facts a little to emphasize the glory that was Alamo.

I'm in total disagreement with this philosophy. I think that the actual story of Alamo is so compelling that it shouldn't be fictionalized. ... Read More:

An epic masterpiece filled with some of the greatest character actors of all time..Like Charlton Heston, John Wayne was cheated out of many honors because of his poltics...
Any who sees The Quiet Man, True Grit,Sands of Iwo Jima, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, The Long Voyage Home, The Shootest and naturally The Searchers must recognize that the Duke was much more than a movie star but a fantastic actor who could create unique characters..(granted, there was no way he could have portrayed a weakling anymore than Tracy or Gable could..it just wasn't in their natures..) ... Sometimes a man has to stand up in the face of almost certain death, because to do otherwise is more unbearable. That's one of the lessons in this outstanding Western. Duvall and Costner are 2 of my favorites and they don't disappoint. It's good to see Costner play a man that's not embarrassed about being right and doesn't take the whole movie to convince he ought to defend the weak.

VHS : How The West Was Won
The Blu Ray release of How the West Was Won is by far the best version released to date. The frames are nearly perfectly aligned and synchronized. The "smile box" format is a real treat. It simulates the Cinerama theatre experience very well. The soundtrack sounds great. Blu Ray has definitely improved home theatre audio which has suffered from low resolution and high data compression with DVD. If you are a fan of this film, an audiophile, a videophile, or a Cinerama enthusiast, you must own this. If you don't already own a Blu Ray player, get off your butt and go buy one! It is worth it for ... Read More:
