VHS : The Pirates of Penzance
There was much controversy over the release and re-broadcast of this version, with Ronstadt playing Mabel. While the rest of the title cast (Kline, Rose, Smith, etc.) were marvelous, Ronstadt was selected to play Mabel for her "star" status at the time - and the raw outlook, that she was a country-western singer, NOT an opera or classical voice. Apparently she had worked for many weeks prior to shooting Pirates in order to enhance and "ready" the soprano she needed to portray Mabel. Not an easy feat, ... Read More:

VHS : Adventures of Robin Hood
Tnis is a Christmas gift for my son but this has to be one of my favorite all time movies. I love Errol Flynn and his athleticism and his anything goes attitude made this a fun movie to watch. The cast was a oerfect match and played well off each other. A must see on regular dvd so it must be really spectacular in bluray.

VHS : Buccaneer
About 1959, I would have been 8 years old, my great aunt Louise saw "The Buccaneer" and had a stroke. She had a stroke each time she saw it. She saw it 5 more times and died.

The term "Kentucky Long Rifle" did not exist prior to the battle of NO; {NO}; it was the "Pennsylvania Rifle" from 1739 to 1815.

LaFitte's part is overstated. The exact Brit battle plan was delivered to Jackson by two of George washington's former spies, Owen Thomas and William Thomas, sr.

On the frontier, the 1776 ... Read More:

VHS : Wicked Lady
Dunaway made this one when she was living in England raising her son and still married to Terry O'Neill. I love it! She looks great, she's in most of the scenes, nice costumes, and a fairly good plot and dialog. Wicked she is, she eats it up. This isn't Oscar material, and the cast knows it, it's just a lot of fun. This isn't one of Dunaway's Top 5, but it's totally watchable and you see her in most of the scenes. I would not rate it quite as good as Eyes of Laura Mars or even Supergirl, but it's better than The Temp and The Chamber. If you ... Read More:

VHS : Robin & Marian
Several years past his last Eon James Bond film finds Sean Connery hitting his stride. This was one of several truly memorable period pieces in that year or two (which included THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING and THE WIND AND THE LION). Great performances by Connery, Audrey Hepburn, Robert Shaw and Nicol Williamson. Also in a small part, Richard Harris as very mad Richard the Lionheart. A warm tale of love, aging with real chemistry between Connery and Hepburn. The end is a downer but it really had to be that way. No extras to speak of on this. One of Richard ... Read More:

VHS : Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves
I love this movie. I owned it on VHS and was looking to upgrade, so I bought this DVD. It's a 2 sided disc so you have to turn the disc over half way through the movie just to watch the rest. Lame. I was also a bit disappointed that the video by Bryan Adams wasn't at the end with the credits like it was on the VHS. It was also at the end of the movie in the movie theatre too, so I'm not sure why they would exclude it on the DVD. I love this movie and hate to give it any thing less than a 4, but because of the DVD format, I'm giving it a 2.

VHS : The Man in The Iron Mask: Literary Masterpieces
No offence to DiCaprio but Richard Chamberlain's duel role of "The Man in the Iron Mask" was definitely better. It amazes me only foreign versions of this on DVD are available. Why not a Region 1 version? Chamberlain did three wonderful Dumas classics, this "The Count of Monte Cristo", and "The Three Musketeers". The first two are not available on Region 1 DVDs after all these years. Great movie that I highly recommend for the whole family. Let's hope someone like Criterion gets the rights for both Chamberlain's Dumas movies that aren't available and does a proper ... Read More:
