VHS : Treasure Island (1990)
This is indeed the very best film version of Robert Louis Stevenson's definitive pirate adventure ever made. Christian Bale plays the young Jim Hawkins and Charlton Heston is Long John Silver, and both are excellent. Add Christopher Lee as Blind Pew and the rest of a terrific cast including Oliver Reed, Clive Wood, and Julian Glover among the many actors that bring the story to life. Filmed on location in Jamaica and on the awesome ship Hispaniola, the scenery and cinematography are marvelous. ... Read More:

VHS : The Pirates of Penzance
There was much controversy over the release and re-broadcast of this version, with Ronstadt playing Mabel. While the rest of the title cast (Kline, Rose, Smith, etc.) were marvelous, Ronstadt was selected to play Mabel for her "star" status at the time - and the raw outlook, that she was a country-western singer, NOT an opera or classical voice. Apparently she had worked for many weeks prior to shooting Pirates in order to enhance and "ready" the soprano she needed to portray Mabel. Not an easy feat, ... Read More:

VHS : I Come in Peace
Essentially, "I Come In Peace" (aka "Dark Angel") is a great idea that was only moderately well exectued. With the exception of appearing in a religious drama, this is probably the strangest vehicle for action hero Dolph Lundgren to get himself over, and to some degree, the Swedish Superman makes it work, but even along with the passing performances of the rest of the cast and a pretty original bad guy, "Peace" ends up being forgettable due to its uninspired pacing and overall lack of action.

I still have this film on VHS. However, the DVD copy looks great on a High Definition screen and sounds great in surround sound. This movie still is fun to watch after all of these years.

VHS : Batman & Robin
In the original "Batman" & "Batman Returns," the storylines (or what shreds there were) were overwhelmed by the comic-book schtick left over from the wonderful 1960's "Batman" series. The schtick was fine for the series, but for the films...AUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. GOOD GRIEF! In "Batman Forever," Akiva Goldsman took over the screenwriting duties and the schtick was eliminated, giving way to a firmly grounded storyline. The same with its excellent follow-up "Batman & Robin" (which I fail to see why ... Read More:

Took this movie out as I liked Dances With Wolves. Just terrible, bad plot, bad acting, bad ending.

VHS : Torpedo Run
I've been looking for this on DVD but i guess it's not politically correct, if you've seen it you know what i mean. Still a great movie, the strongest part of which is the superb acting by Glenn Ford and especially Ernest Borgnine. The dialogue is good but the chemistry is even better. Ford's terse command voice during sub operations is also excellent, i can't think of a better sub capt performance beside it except Das Boot.
