| This is the 716th review of this movie! What can I say that has not already been said about this wonderfully compelling movie? I will not comment on the restoration process or the pros and cons of buying the 2-disk or 4-disk set, as this is adequately discussed by many other reviewers. I will say that this movie won 10 Academy awards and is still regarded as the 6th best epic movie of all-time. That should be credentials enough to want to view this extraordinary movie.

| I throughly enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to any one who enjoys good music. The plot was entertaining and you were hoping that his wife would win out in the end. A good way to spend a couple of hours. |

| Time has not been kind to "Tortilla Flat" (1942). Spencer Tracy, John Garfield and Hedy Lamarr are regrettably miscast in this disappointing adaptation of John Steinbeck's 1935 novel. However, Frank Morgan earned an Oscar nomination for his standout performance as the dog-loving hermit - the best aspect of director Victor Fleming's misguided comedy-drama. The Steinbeck realism is hopelessly lost amid the MGM gloss. |

| slightly offensive. It's not entirely fair to hold a movie made in 1937 to our standards, but MGM could have showed some courage had they employed Chinese actors for Chinese parts. It's the same type of subtle racism of the day when native Americans in movies were played by whites. It is disrespectful at least. That said the photgraphy is awesome. There's just something about a locust plague in black & white. An excellant but definite fictional Hollywood movie. The life of a peasant farmer Wang Lang. Paul Muni did as well as anyone could have. | It is a simple story, really. Jim (Clark Gable) and Gunner (Spencer Tracy) are test pilots. They risk their lives for thrills and a quick buck. Jim loves women and Gunner loves Jim. Howard Drake (Lionel Barrymore) is their mentor, and he knows them through and through. He doesn't quite believe it when Jim marries Ann (Myrna Loy), a farmgirl from Kansas, but over time he realizes the true bond they have with each other. It is too bad Jim will never lose his love for the sky and the adrenaline rush he gets when he flies.
