| This is a beautifully depicted film. Yes, it is based on fact, but I am sure than no movie can really accurately described what really went on in the lives of the Romanovs. However, as a movie, its really brilliant. Its utterly mesmerizing, and it really is all thanks to Alan Rickman. He is utter perfection in this. His portrayal of the infamous Rasputin is genius and almost creepy. The likeness is undeniable. This is a dramatic film and I really wish a proper dvd would finally come out. |

| This film seems to be a divorce gift from Madonna to Sean Penn. After hot tempered fits of bondage and domination fueled by alcohol split their msrriage up, she still claimed to love him. Madonna monotones her lines as she strips to keep us guessing, Did she do the murder or not? William Dafoe snarls, grimmaces and shouts as her attorney seduced by her devious games, at times resembling Talman's Hamilton Berger on Perry Mason. | This is extraordinary acting - vincent D'Onofrio, Andre Braugher (always fabulous in this series) and the other great "Homicide" cast - but this story is amazing. Seemed almost more like a stage production than film/television. I saw the story as a metaphor - life, death, the meaning, the randomness versus design of it all, responsibility/lack thereof, the train....all of it. Extremely powerful in every way. Original, powerful, brilliant work. |

| As an avid fan of the original MZB masterpiece, I was truly saddened, disgusted, and furious, at what these Hacks (the Writer's, Producers, Editors, Costume Designers [were totally anacronistic in what thy came up with, btw], and Studio Execs.) did to such an excellent work.
I mean really! Just where do they get off by totally changing almost everythin that was/is contained in the book, into what was/is presented??? I'd sure like to know. Although, I do applaud all the actors involved. Givren what ... Read More: |

| purgatory is somewhat of a surprise. i am a fan of westerns, but you don't have to like cowboy pictures to appreciate this excellent made for t.v. movie. like most good westerns, purgatory is about far more than gun fights in the wild west. it is a love story, a tale of good vs evil, and a lesson on the thin line that often separates right from wrong. all of the actors give first rate performances that go above and beyond what is usually seen in movies that are produced for television. if you are looking for something original that ... | I first saw this movie as a teenager. Its raw gritty truthful protrayal of drug abuse stuck with me through the years. When my son was a young teen I had him watch it as well. To this day, he still has vivid memories of this movie. The book is equally as impacting, yet harder to find. |
