This movie is a really powerful demonstration of the "art" of movie making as it is hard to find today. Pure content, no special effects, a simple setting - yet extremely exciting, makes you wanna continue watching until the last minute. A true classic!

VHS : The Wiz (1978)
This is my all time favorite movie. I recently purchased it for the younger generation and it was a hit with them as well. This movie transcends time and ages. Very entertaining with a positive message. Two thumbs up!

VHS : Verdict (1982)
I've been filling out my collection of Paul Newman films since his passing - and THE VERDICT is one of his best films. A classic script by David Mamet, splendid direction by Sidney Lumet and one of Paul's best performances. The extras in this package are a great bonus. And it's a kick to see a young Bruce Willis sitting in the gallery in the courtroom scenes. An early acting lesson for him watching Newman work (along with Jack Warden, James Mason and a stunningly acted cameo by Lindsay Crouse in a pivotal role. ... Read More:

There is hardly a difference in the approach that the estimable Anne Bancroft takes as the incorrigible Estelle Rolfe in this sentimental 1984 comedy versus what she did three years later as the equally feisty Helene Hanff in David Jones' 84 Charing Cross Road. Somehow, this fine actress can take what may appear to be a caricature on paper and infuse it with her special blend of warmth and moxie to make the characters come alive. Just as it was Helene's love of antiquarian books that drove the story of the later film, ... Read More:

I first saw this movie in the early 80's became an instant Alan King fan and purchased it immediately. The movie was hilarious. It is about a tycoon (Max) with a alcoholic wife (Connie), mistress (Bones) and a protective secretary (Stella) and how Max's agressive, manipulative and vindictive personality affects all. Anyone who watches this movie will never forget the hilarious scene where Bones (McGraw) attacks Max (King) at Bergdorf's.

You could classify this movie as the comedic version of Wall Street. ... Read More:

VHS : Night Falls on Manhattan
Like all other films directed by Sidney Lumet, this is a solid, no-nonsense, intelligent police drama. In my opinion, Andy Garcia exhibits one of his finest performances in this film. Unfortunately, the 1.85:1 widescreen DVD is not enhanced for 16:9 TVs, although the picture and sound are of high quality.

This movie is one of my top twentyfive movies. A movie that polarizes
the audience, and forces each and every one of the audience to explore
our own personal prejudices, and the outright racisim that this film
exposes.
The fans of Tenessee Williams may not agree with the way his story was
related to film. But does that matter, if the film brings the cancer
of prejudices and racisim to light, in a manner that even the most dull
among us could draw a conclusion, without commiting emotional or mental ... Read More:

VHS : Murder on the Orient Express
Murder on the Orient Express is the first Christie novel I read, and I believe it is the best Christie novel ever... After reading almost all Poirot books and seeing all Hercule Poirot adaptations(starring David Suchet), I think Albert Finney had none of the characteristics of Poirot. He is not well dressed, he is not clever, he is not anything that Poirot was...I think Finney and the director should have read some of Christie novels.
For the movie, I should say that the cast is superb, scenes are very good for its time.
Overall; I am no ... Read More:

VHS : Lovin Molly
In my first review of this video, I neglected to mention that there is a powerful story here. Despite the movie's shortcomings, which are largely the result that telling it in detail would have made it too long, it is a good story. Each character(Gid, Johnny, and Molly) tell their version of their life together. Dates on screen help the viewer track the chronology as the story unfolds. It's a good buy, especially if you read the book also.
