| I've been anxious to broaden my film horizons with some classic pieces of American cinema. The results have been mixed. Some times I feel some of these "classics" are a bit of a bore. They might have some significant themes, but also have unrealistic plot developments, fanciful dialogue, and a severe case of overacting.

| I got this movie in a 10 pack. This film pays for the whole thing! Burton is excellent! No over acting; very realistic. It may just be his best role! Tatum is very good. Young girls CAN be very smart. I love the line: robbing the cradle, robbing the grave (something like that). I like the realism of all the characters. Hey, it's an old guy's best daydream, like me. | If Dassen's political views had been, say, right wing, would any of the "fillum" critics pay much attention to this at times interesting, overly long, and painfully melodramatic gangster movie? If the film hadn't featured barely clothed women, would it have been praised at the time? I feel sorry for the "film studies" students who must endure this movie and write silly, politically correct essays on its "message."
