| Though "Swiss Miss" was among Laurel and Hardy's weaker features, it contained several vintage sequences. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about "The Bohemian Girl" (1936) - a dour comic opera with few highlights. What worked so beautifully in "Fra Diavolo" falls flat this time around. The Stan and Ollie characters remain submerged in the operetta's unrelenting heaviness. | It's already been well-covered as to plot, deficiencies, etc. by other reviewers. So I will just say that, bogged down though it may be with a dreadful and forgettable romance that has little bearing on our boys, the merits far outweigh the slight defects. | Way Out West is generally regarded as Laurel and Hardy's best feature film.Next to Sons Of The Desert.It is the only other L&H film to be a Stan Laurel Production(the other being Our Relations from a year earlier).Definetly one of my favourite L&H films.Not a dull moment in the movie.Rarely do we actually see Stan laugh.Not only is this one of their films where Oliver sings beautifully,but Stan also sings with a cartoonish trick voice.There are a lot of special effects in this movie as well.Such as Stan igniting his thumb,the ... A get-even, escalation. Very funny. Not just music. Planned so you follow the action, just by watching, at a quick pace. Builds the plot for a couple minutes, then takes off, at ever increasing speed. Only 20-minutes, seems like 5-minutes. Better than a talkie. Laurel & Hardy's best (I have seen them all).
